205: Stories | Walking In The Light

Key Truth: Christ followers can't experience authentic community while pretending to be someone they're not. Key Verse: 1 John 1:5-10 Summary: Walking in the light, in right relationship with God, requires walking in authentic relationship with other believers (vs. 7). It means being open about our failures—to God and others—rather than just trying to save face (vs. 8) _________________________________ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/legacychurchtx/ Join us in person: https://legacychurchhutto.com

    203: Fearing Bravely | God's Love

Key Truth: No one is outside of God's Love Key Verse: Matthew 5:43–48; Romans 12:9–21 Summary: In extending his command to love neighbors to include even our enemies, Jesus widens the net of God’s love so far that no one is outside of it. In following Jesus, we are invited to live a life that extends love even to our enemies—and to overcome evil with good. _________________________________ Jesus commands us to love our neighbors. God instructs us to welcome strangers; we are not to withhold hospitality or help from anyone in need. So why do we fear strangers, especially those needing hospitality, afraid that their presence may threaten what we have? Jesus taught us to love our enemies; we are to pray for those who actively harm us. Instead, we create enemies in our minds, seeing anyone who thinks, believes, looks, or lives differently from us as dangerous, a threat to our way of living. The Christian community exists to declare and demonstrate God’s love and to follow Jesus in practicing love over fear, even in unsafe times and places. It’s time to reclaim our brave fear of God and risk transformative love for the sake of our neighbors, the strangers among us, and our enemies. _________________________________ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/legacychurchtx/ Join us in person: https://legacychurchhutto.com

    202: Fearing Bravely | Strangers

Key Truth: Christ followers love and care for strangers Key Verse: Luke 10:25–37 Summary: We are taught to be afraid of strangers, foreigners, and immigrants; yet Jesus’s teaching in the Gospels (and God’s teaching throughout the Bible) is that we are to especially and sacrificially love and care for strangers. Christians simply cannot allow our goodwill and investment to remain within our friend groups. Strangers, outsiders, and immigrants (at our border or in our communities) are people made and loved by God, whom he has commanded us to love and care for. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors. 201: Fearing Bravely | Love God Love People

Key Truth: Jesus said that the most important command in all Scripture, alongside loving God, is loving our neighbors as we love ourselves. Key Verse: Mark 12:28–34 Summary: Jesus said that the most important command in all Scripture, alongside loving God, is loving our neighbor, caring for our community as we care for ourselves and our own families. Though we cannot change the world on our own, when we each do our part to care for our neighbors, God’s kingdom truly comes to earth. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors. God instructs us to welcome strangers; we are not to withhold hospitality or help from anyone in need. So why do we fear strangers, especially those needing hospitality, afraid that their presence may threaten what we have? 200: Fearing Bravely | Discipled By Love

Key Truth: Life is full of reasons to be afraid. But Jesus invites us to live out of a posture of love not fear. Key Verse(s): 1 John 4:7–12, 18; 1 Corinthians 13:1–13 Summary: When we are discipled to take our eyes off fear and look daily to God’s love, believers are empowered to take neither a fight nor a flight posture but to engage our communities. Jesus commands us to love our neighbors. God instructs us to welcome strangers; we are not to withhold hospitality or help from anyone in need. So why do we fear strangers, especially those needing hospitality, afraid that their presence may threaten what we have? Jesus taught us to love our enemies; we are to pray for those who actively harm us.
