    Does the Governor's Shirt Color Matter in West Virginia Politics? YES!

    All heck is breaking loose in West Virginia’s gubernatorial politics. After weeks if not months of speculation US Senator and former WV Governor Jim Justice openly admitted he is considering another run his old job. The current governor, Patrick Morrisey, was already on a string of bad press before that, and over the weekend found himself at the center of another controversy. Center being the key word, as he flipped the coin for WVU football’s home opener wearing a dark blue WV State Parks polo surrounded by 60k West Virginians all wearing white. Because all WVU fans knew to wear white. Is that fair? On this Heard Tell we talk about how there is no such thing as fair in politics, that Charleston Gazette piece that I think was over the line critical of Patrick Morrisey, the reasons why Gov. Morrisey is having a rough go of it, thoughts on the quasi-primary that appears to be under way, and what it all means. Or should mean, if we were a more serious people than apparently we are.     Perspective, Expectations, and Affordability's Moving Target

    Instead of yelling at others as part of the “affordability”, for this Heard Tell we take the roiling online debate and bring it back to the personal. Having a diverse educational and work background is a good place to start, and being the parent of young adult kids who are navigating these issues in real time means some helpful context.     Let's Talk West Virginia Water Right Quick

    The old saying goes being listened to is better than being heard because the latter is passive and automatic whereas listening is active and requires focus. But I suspect what sounds like a good idea isn’t going to go well for Gov Patrick Morrisey because the folks on his “listening tour” wanted to be heard the first time and don’t want just attention they want it fixed. But there is no easy fix. The people don’t want to hear that, and the governor can’t say that. Meanwhile, too many are going without reliable access to the very foundational building block of life as we know it: water. Maybe the governor never has the experience of turning on the tap and getting that rotten egg smell as red goop sulpher runs for a bit before you get to the better, cleaner water like was one of my chores in the church I grew up.
