    Holley had to begin to come to terms with the distinct possibility, that the chances of her husband making it though this…were incredibly slim. Everything seemed to be working against Eben, and in his own unconscious and comatose world, he was moving closer, and closer to death itself. This horrific condition had burrowed itself so deeply into Eben Alexanders brain, that even when the doctors were pulling back his eyelids and checking for any responses from the pupils of his eyes, they were getting nothing at all. The life support systems which he was hooked up to were keeping his body alive…but it seemed the brain may be totally lost. This is episode 71 of the Haunted UK Podcast, and in this episode, we travel to the other side, to listen to stories of Near-Death Experiences.     Haunted UK Abroad - Ghostly tales and Legends of Quebec – Part 2 Early settlers in what would become the Canadian province of Quebec were known for being hardy, resourceful, proud people, having to survive both the harsh climate of the region and the persistent threat of assimilation which could potentially lead to the loss of their culture, traditions, and history. Over the course of centuries, their stories were passed down, to both record this rich cultural history and to warn the population of the various dangers of the land.     Haunted UK Abroad - Ghostly tales and Legends of Quebec – Part 1

    Quebec is known as one of the most historically and culturally rich provinces in Canada. Its culture is one filled to the brim with folklore and legends, to the point where there are books dedicated entirely to traditional French-Canadian fairy tales and lore. These stories intertwine the influences of both early French settlers and the Native American tribes that populated the region. Most of the legends were kept alive by Raconteurs, the French-Canadian equivalent of bards or minstrels who would use oral storytelling traditions to both keep their people’s history and culture alive and pass on warnings about the consequences of moral failings such as greed or selfishness. These tales spread throughout the land as the Raconteurs travelled the region, spreading stories that would often feature religious undertones, such as deals with the devil and the dire consequences that ensued, to keep morality, superstition, and obedience at the forefront of the burgeoning population’s minds. Many of these stories are still familiar to the current population of Quebec and continue to be told to this day.     Between the years of 1865 and 1901, the United States saw unprecedented economic and industrial growth. During this time, an area referred to as The Berkshires in the state of Massachusetts became the primary location for the country’s wealthiest families to build country estates that would rival many of the UK’s manor houses in both stature and size. These estates, despite their grandiose nature, were referred to as the Berkshire Cottages due to their primary function being summer homes. Many of these houses hosted lavish events attended by the highest of high society figures at the time. Over a century after the Berkshire Cottages’ heyday, echoes remain of former inhabitants who aren’t yet prepared to leave their grandiose, gilded age homes behind.
