You Didn't Come Here to Be Who They Wanted You to Be

Some of the hardest energetic cords to cut are not attached to other people. They’re attached to versions of you that you created to survive. The people pleaser. The perfectionist. The caretaker. The responsible one.The version of you who learned exactly who she needed to be in order to stay loved, accepted, praised, or protected. In this episode, I’m exploring energetic cord cutting through a different lens: the attachments we form to our own survival identities. Because sometimes the thing keeping you stuck is not an ex, a parent, or another relationship. It’s an old agreement about who you have to be. We talk about how these identities can become energetic imprints, why familiar ways of being can feel safer than authentic ones, and how childhood reasoning can continue shaping adult choices long after the original circumstances have changed. In this episode, we explore: Why some of your strongest energetic attachments may be to past versions of yourself How people pleasing, perfectionism, and caregiving can become protective identities Why survival masks can make rejection feel less vulnerable The connection between energetic attachments, the inner child, and the body How childhood experiences can shape what you associate with responsibility, safety, love, and acceptance Why you may be making present-day decisions from a version of yourself who no longer lives in your present reality How clearing old attachments can create more space for authentic expression and grounded decision-making Why “opening the road” may require releasing an identity before pursuing something new One of the questions I want you to sit with after listening is: Who did you have to become in order to be accepted, loved, protected, or praised, and where is that version of you still making decisions today? Go deeper For paid subscribers, I created a companion Integration Guide: Cutting the Cords to Who You Had to Become. It will help you explore the survival identities you formed, what they protected you from, the old agreements underneath them, how those patterns show up in your body and current choices, and what might become possible as you begin making decisions from who you are now. Use it as a journal, reflection practice, or companion to this episode as you begin noticing the difference between the self who survived and the self who is becoming. This is a public episode.
