    Discipline vs Motivation: Integrating some keys to success !

    Motivation:  ·      (noun) The general desire or willingness of someone to do something. Discipline:  ·      (verb) To train by instruction and exercise; drill. When you’re planning on changing something at work:  ·      Allow motivation to inspire you, drive your innovative thoughts, and light the flame of change within you. Do not expect it to hang about, though.  ·      Once your motivation has sparked this new way of thinking, you need to focus on building more disciplined actions around it. So, for example, if you’ve decided you want to speed up team briefings and think of an excellent way to do it, you need to become disciplined enough to implement the innovation. The term “get on with it” comes to mind.  ·      Finally, you need to be specific with what the discipline will look like when it comes to achieving your particular goal. It’s much easier to stick to a well-established plan, rather than a mish-mash of half-thought-through ideas that are liable to change.  When discussing the motivation versus discipline topic, often people ask me: “Which is more important?” The truth of the matter is motivation, and discipline, or self-discipline, work hand-in-hand. They are equally important when it comes to forming the habits that you need to establish for success at work or in life—Ying and Yang, if you like.     Material possessions: A new age addiction?

    Life is so cyclical. My friends and my family thought I was loosing my mind, so I had to step back to search within to find what I wanted. Last year, at this time, I was so unhappy with all the accumulation of “things”. I was living downtown LA in a large beautiful loft next to the Staples Center. I had 3 TV’s, a PlayStation 4 with games, a closet full of clothes, suits, and shoes, more electronics than I could use, bedding, sheets, pillows, and furniture galore. I remember ... I made a list of it all in preparation to sell things. And then I decided to just GIVE IT ALL AWAY. From my clothes to my furniture and my expensive suits. All of it. I was scared. I was unsure. I didn’t know what would happen. I still did it. I left. I moved myself into a hostel @podshare and met an amazing community of friends that I still talk to. I moved my business @hairmaidenindia into a smaller but nicer unit in Beverly Hills. I was expecting a decrease in business and the exact OPPOSITE happened. It was a level up in disguise.  Support the show
