    Will Tall Clothing Brands Survive Long-Term? | The End of The Elevated Closet & The Truth About Running a Tall Brand

    Shopping for clothes as a tall girly is a nightmare.  We’ve been over this, honestly, who knows how many times. We go in-store, and we can’t find much in our length or size. There’s tall-washing in online shops where brands say that they sell tall sizes or hint that they sell tall sizes when they really don’t.  There are also tall options that really only fit the short girlies (5’9 - 6’0).  It can be frustrating.  And this frustration leads many tall women to start their own tall clothing brands. But what isn’t really spoken about enough or shown enough is the behind-the-scenes and the struggles of maintaining their businesses. So today, we’re gonna talk a little bit about the difficulties of owning and scaling a tall brand as well as the unfortunate closing of a very popular one.     When Fashion Isn't Made for Every Body | The Unique Struggles of Finding Tall Plus-Size Clothing ft. Melanie

    Tall women have had their struggles with the fashion industry for the past few decades.  And this honestly comes as a bit of a shock since models are tall, whether walking down the runway IRL or appearing in photos on some of our favorite clothing sites. Well, these models are often short tall, but that’s an episode for a different day. But it’s not uncommon for a tall girly to go into a store and not be able to find pants, tops, dresses, shoes even because they’re too short or too small.  And this type of frustration has led to many tall women starting clothing brands for tall women to help solve this problem. And today, I’m interviewing one of those tall women.  I’m speaking with Melanie, fellow tall girly and co-founder of Ladies of Leisure, a clothing brand specifically for tall women.     Why Are Tall Women Obsessed With Feeling Smaller? | How The Internet Glorifies Smaller Women's Bodies

    Tall women are less likely to fit into the traditional image of femininity.  It’s common for us to be called masculine because of our height and naturally larger features, since being tall and bigger are things associated with masculinity. And then on top of that, it’s a bit of a struggle to physically present ourselves in a feminine way, meaning when clothes like dresses, shoes, or even skirts aren’t available in our size or length. But that’s a topic for a different day.  But a common thing that we hear in the tall girly community, whether or not they like their height, is that they want to be or feel smaller. Some outright say that they wish that they were shorter. Others say that they want to feel small and petite and protected next to their male partners. Either way, it all ties back to wanting to feel or be smaller.  In today’s episode, we’re talking about the obsession with being smaller, how it ties into femininity, and why some tall women desire to be smaller when really, they desire to feel feminine.     "I Wish I Was Tall...Just Not As Tall As You" | Getting Bullied When Our Height Is Seen As Desirable

    For many of us, being tall as a woman was frowned upon for much of our lives.  Growing up, our peers would say the most negative things about our height, calling us ‘big’ and making horrible jokes about our height. If we have a crush on a guy, he’d probably tell us that we’re ‘too tall’. Family members would make comments about our bodies, often comparing us to boys. And this would happen into “teenage-hood” and adulthood, right?  People tell us we shouldn’t wear heels; male-centered short women call us masculine or compare body parts; even strangers question our gender because of our height. All of these experiences taught us that we should “hide”, that we should be smaller, and that being tall as a woman is a bad thing.  If that’s the case, then it comes as a shock that there are people out there who say that they wish that they were tall.     Why Do Tall Women Minimize Themselves for Others? | People Pleasing Tendencies in Tall Women

    If you’re a tall girly, or honestly a tall person, tuning in to this right now, listen to the next few questions and feel free to answer them in the comments or via my DMs.  At any point in time, have you ever found yourself slouching around shorter people?  Have you ever volunteered to be in the back of photos or even bent down in photos with shorter folks?  Has someone ever made a comment about you wearing heels, and you chose not to wear them because of it?  If you answered yes to any of these questions, those are examples of minimizing yourself for the comfort of others. While these actions seem very small, which they are, they kind of reflect people-pleasing tendencies.  In today’s episode, we’re going to discuss how many tall women are indirectly taught from a young age to minimize themselves, prioritize other people’s comfort, and develop people-pleasing tendencies.     So Tall Women Make People Feel Uncomfortable? | Why People React Differently to Tall Women

    There are people who have a problem with tall women.  And we’ve spoken about this in quite a few episodes, whether they’ve shown it through transphobic comments, microaggressions, or even passive-aggressive questions. And if you’re a tall girly tuning in to this right now, I’m sure you can understand.  It happens when strangers give you looks. Or when coworkers treat you differently from other coworkers. Or when family members make comments about your height and body.  And at the end of the day, we all have the same question: Why?  Why do people do this? Why do people act a certain way towards us?  Well, it’s because we make people feel uncomfortable.     The Unspoken Reality of Being A Tall Black Woman

    Being tall often comes with a bunch of stereotypes.  Athlete, model, masculine, intimidating, aggressive, authoritative, the list goes on and on.  And there are other physical characteristics that, when combined with height and being tall, can kind of double down on these stereotypes.  Like being tall and thin, for example, people like to associate that with being a model. Being tall and plus-sized means many people associate that with aggression and intimidation. Same if you’re tall with a more athletic build. People can even go as far as calling you masculine.  And then there’s being tall and Black as a woman, which we’ll dive into today, especially after a comment about Michelle Obama (and no, this is nothing political, as this is not that type of podcast). But in today’s episode, we’re going to discuss that comment and how it kinda represents the tall Black woman experience.     Tall Women Are EXHAUSTED | The Problem with Constant Visibility

    Being a tall woman is definitely a unique experience.  Oftentimes, when we enter a room, we’re the first person people see, and they stare, whether they’re in awe of our physical presence or wondering how a woman could even be that tall. Extremely brave strangers come up to us and ask us questions and make comments about our height.  And honestly, sometimes these strangers don’t even come up to us and say these things. They’ll just stare and say the comments to the person they’re with without a care in the world, even if they see that we notice them talking about us. Like y’all do know that we know when you’re talking about us, right?  But what definitely goes unnoticed is the emotional fatigue and slight burnout tall women feel from the tall girl experience. So today, we’re talking about how the stares, the comments, and how constantly being perceived can take an emotional and mental toll on tall women and affect how we show up in our everyday lives.
