Or being tempted to believe?  Is my response helping me or harming me further? Is this a safety issue (physical or emotional)?  If not a safety issue why am I pulling away? Comfort? Easier? Do I not care about the relationship? Maybe I just don't have the capacity right now to handle it differently.
