79: You Will Never Fix Your Relationship With Food

Send us a text Let’s get one thing clear: there’s a solid chance that all the podcasts, therapy sessions, and journal prompts in the world aren’t going to “heal” your relationship with food. And if you’ve been beating yourself up about that, maybe it’s time you stopped. In this episode, I take a flamethrower to the feel-good fantasy of someday reaching the mystical land where food is just food, moderation is natural, and donuts in the freezer don't haunt you at 1am. Sound depressing? It’s not. It’s actually the most freeing thing I’ve ever realized. 👉 We’ll dive deep into how the idea of a “healthy relationship with food” has been marketed, commodified, and sold back to us—packaged as therapy speak mixed with wellness fluff. Between body positivity, diet culture backlash, and therapy culture going mainstream, we’ve now got two extremes: cold, clinical rehab models on one side, and “just eat intuitively!” influencers on the other. Neither works for everyone. And they don’t have to. 💡 What if you’re not broken? What if you’re just one of the people who will never be able to moderate certain foods—and that doesn’t make you weak or traumatized or in need of more healing? It just means you’re operating with a different rulebook. And once you accept that, everything gets simpler. We also pull in professional insights to balance out my usual rants (clip @ 1:12), and I’ll explain why trying to measure your relationship with food is like trying to measure your marriage with a FitBit. This episode covers: Why some people will never have a “normal” relationship with food Emotional eating vs. real food addiction (and why that debate is dumb) The failure of “moderation” as a blanket prescription Why the “no bad foods” narrative is half-right and still mostly wrong When professional help is useful—and when it just sells false hope What peace and clarity actually look like, even if “healing” never comes If you’ve ever done everything right and still feel like food owns you—this is the episode you’ve been waiting for. And if you’re one of the lucky ones who can moderate, you’ll still walk away with a better understanding of the other half who can’t. And maybe a little more compassion. This isn’t a pity party or a self-help pep talk. It’s a brutally honest conversation about reality, and how to live within it. Because once you stop chasing the dream of being “healed,” you can finally start building a life that works. 🧠 Subscribe for more no-BS insights on health, food, mindset, and why the industry keeps getting it wrong. 🎧 Available now on YouTube, Spotify, Apple Podcasts & wherever you listen. 78: Will The Gym Turn You Right Wing?

Send us a text Why is going to the gym being treated like a political decision? According to some media outlets, lifting weights might just be your first step down the pipeline to fascism. Sounds absurd, right? But articles like The Guardian's “Fascist Fitness” suggest otherwise, claiming that the far-right is recruiting through online fitness groups. In this episode, I dive into these claims and break down the alleged connection between fitness, masculinity, and conservative ideology. We explore how historical figures like Yukio Mishima and even Hitler tied strength to national identity. But does getting stronger really make you more right-wing? Or is this media hysteria gone wild? I examine the science behind these claims—discussing studies on testosterone, political alignment, and personality traits like parochial altruism. Does increasing your deadlift PR mean you're on your way to adopting far-right beliefs? Or are we oversimplifying how fitness influences personal growth? We also take a humorous look at gym culture—from the crass jokes to the supposed "fascist gyms" like the Barbell Strength Tribe described in academic articles. Plus, I share some wild Reddit takes on why gyms skew conservative and what that says about our broader cultural narratives around fitness. Spoiler: It's not about politics—it's about personal development. But the conversation around fitness, masculinity, and political identity is far from black and white. 00:00:00 Intro 00:03:09 The Guardian Articles 00:06:08 Why This Is So Hard To Research 00:06:44 Are There Even That Many People? 00:08:27 The "GYM FASCISM" Article 00:10:36 Is Fitness Homophobic? 00:13:18 Why Does Fitness Feel So Politically Charged? 00:15:24 How Physiology Impacts Your Politics 00:19:00 Reddit: Why Do Gyms Skew Conservative? 00:21:32 Is Fitness (and Conservatism) Selfish? 00:22:47 r/AskConservatives 00:24:34 What My Followers Thought 00:26:09 How Personality SCIENTIFICALLY Impacts Political Preference 00:26:59 Openness 00:27:58 Conscientousness 00:29:15 Extraversion 00:30:34 Agreeableness 00:32:02 neuroticism 00:34:21 Heritable Mental Illnesses 00:34:52 My Thoughts BEFORE Starting 00:38:11 Why Are Conservative Pundits Healthier? 00:38:32 Why Are Liberal Pundits Healthier? 00:38:59 Every Fitness Influencer Is Conservative 00:40:46 IS The Gym Even Masculine? 00:44:20 Final Thoughts: Can You Transcend Your Genes and Upbringing? 00:45:37 So Will The Gym Make You A Conservative? 00:46:08 SLPLASH and outro Support the show @RealAndrewBriggs @HolisticMotionco HolisticMotion.com

76: Nikocado Avocado's SHOCKING Weight Loss SECRET

Send us a text In this video, we dive deep into how Nikocado Avocado, famous for his outrageous mukbangs, managed to lose a staggering 250 lbs in just two years. Despite keeping fans in the dark through a backlog of content, Nikocado's transformation is nothing short of shocking. We explore the methods he may have used, the psychological effects of his weight loss journey, and the burning question on everyone's mind: How does he have zero loose skin after such rapid weight loss? First, we tackle the core questions: How did he lose the weight? Many speculate that Nikocado used weight loss methods like intermittent fasting, calorie restriction, or even GLP-1 agonists like Ozempic, which have recently gained popularity for appetite suppression. We break down why these methods might have been effective and the possible downsides, such as loss of lean mass or "skinny fat" appearance. Next, we look at his body transformation—remarkably, Nikocado shows little to no signs of loose skin, which is uncommon after such drastic weight loss. We explore the potential reasons behind this, from possible skin removal surgery to the impact of muscle retention and dieting techniques like keto, carnivore, and veganism. Finally, we ask the question: What’s next for Nikocado Avocado? His mukbang content may need to shift as his weight loss changes his on-screen persona. Will he continue mukbangs, shift his content, or retire his persona altogether? We analyze his future options in light of his newfound physique and health. This video not only unpacks the details of Nikocado’s weight loss journey but also touches on the broader cultural and psychological implications of such a public transformation. 75: The Terrifying Truth About Microplastics

Send us a text So, what can we do to protect ourselves? The video covers practical steps to reduce exposure to plastics and EDCs, such as choosing organic cotton clothing, switching to glass containers, avoiding plastic bottles, and opting for natural fibers in your wardrobe. We also discuss detox methods like sweating in the gym or sauna, and the importance of supporting regenerative farming practices. The science is clear: Microplastics and EDCs are disrupting our hormones and reproductive health, with studies showing significant damage to male fertility, shrinking AGDs (anogenital distances), and causing DNA fragmentation in sperm. These harmful effects are not just isolated to men; women are also affected, with evidence pointing to decreased ovarian reserve and reproductive capacity. We explore how microplastics enter our bodies through ingestion, inhalation, and skin absorption. From the food we eat, the water we drink, to the clothes we wear, the threat is omnipresent. The video highlights shocking studies, including findings of microplastics in human tissues and the alarming amount of plastic particles in bottled and tap water. The environmental impact is equally dire. Plastic mulch used in agriculture is contaminating our soil, and the relentless production of plastics is leading to an unimaginable amount of microplastic particulates in the air, water, and even rain. This widespread contamination affects wildlife, with research showing that cities near petrochemical plants have higher levels of genital malformations and fertility issues. But it’s not just an environmental crisis—this is a personal health emergency. The potential link between EDCs and gender identity development is discussed, backed by studies indicating that phthalates might be contributing to feminization in males. The impact of these chemicals is complex, crossing anatomical, social, and political boundaries. As we discuss the implications of these findings, we also provide actionable tips for detoxifying your life. From eliminating plastic utensils and cookware to investing in air purifiers and sourcing your food from trusted, regenerative farms, every small step counts. The video also touches on how some communities, like the Amish, naturally avoid these toxins and maintain high fertility rates, suggesting that a return to simpler, more natural living could be key to overcoming these challenges. Lastly, the video addresses the grim reality that our overreliance on plastic is driving us toward an uncertain future. With evidence of plastics causing endocrine disruptions, fertility declines, and even gender imbalances, it’s clear that this issue must be tackled head-on. Whether through individual choices or collective action, we must start reducing our exposure to these harmful substances now, before it's too late. 74: Why Is Intermittent Fasting Causing Heart Attacks?

Send us a text Is intermittent fasting a potential trigger for heart attacks? Recent research has uncovered startling findings, suggesting a link between time-restricted eating and an up to 91% increased risk of death from cardiovascular diseases. Victor Wenze Zhong, the study's lead author, expresses confusion over why his research found such an association. This revelation has sent shockwaves through the health community, especially given the long-standing praise of fasting for its numerous benefits, including improved insulin sensitivity, reduced inflammation, enhanced mental clarity, and even purported improvements in heart health. With a backdrop of media frenzy and sensational headlines, it's crucial to delve deeper and uncover the full story behind these claims. As a staunch advocate of fasting, I believe in its potential, but also recognize the need for a balanced and well-researched perspective. This video represents 15 hours of meticulous research, yet I confess, there remains a critical issue I have yet to fully decipher. The Origin of Fasting: You've likely tried fasting or know someone who has. The concept of intermittent fasting has become a popular health strategy only recently, although its practice dates back much further, often intertwined with cultural and religious rites. However, the modern adaptation—time-restricted eating—carries distinct definitions and intentions, which are crucial in understanding its implications on health. The Study in Question: Derived from data of the National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (NHANES), this study tracked approximately 20,000 U.S. adults over an average of 8 years. It highlights potential errors in self-reported dietary recalls, a common issue in nutritional research, which could skew results. Furthermore, the study doesn't account for other significant health influences, which could be critical in evaluating the true impact of intermittent fasting. Expert Opinions: The study reports that restricting eating times to less than 8 hours a day may significantly increase the risk of cardiovascular mortality. However, it's essential to note that the typical fasting window recommended is usually 16:8, not less than 8 hours. The findings also suggested that longer eating durations might reduce cancer mortality among those with the condition, presenting a complex puzzle of diet, health, and longevity. Controversies and Context: Zhong's comments reflect a frustration with the nuances of dietary research, emphasizing the need for personalized dietary advice. Meanwhile, other experts like Christopher D. Gardner, PhD, point out gaps in the study, questioning the nutritional quality of the diets and the reliability of categorizing fasting based on minimal data. https://newsroom.heart.org/news/8-hour-time-restricted-eating-linked-to-a-91-higher-risk-of-cardiovascular-death https://www.sciencedirect.com/science/article/pii/S2772487523000429?via%3Dihub https://www.nbcnews.com/health/heart-health/intermittent-fasting-risk-cardiovascular-death-rcna143853 Self reporting PMID: 32719809 Trackers PMID: 34957939 Support the show @RealAndrewBriggs @HolisticMotionco HolisticMotion.com

73: The Truth About Saturated Fat - Brian Sanders | Food Lies

Send us a text In this comprehensive discussion, Brian Sanders, creator of the "Food Lies" documentary, explores the controversial topics surrounding modern diets, the misconceptions about saturated fats, and the potential health benefits of ancestral diets. Sanders challenges the long-held belief that saturated fat is harmful, citing historical and emerging research that suggests otherwise. He emphasizes the adaptability of human diets across different environments, advocating for a return to whole, nutrient-dense foods as seen in ancestral eating practices. The conversation delves into how flawed scientific studies have shaped public perceptions of diet and health, particularly concerning heart disease and cholesterol levels. Sanders criticizes the influence of food industry lobbying on dietary guidelines, which often prioritize commercial interests over health. He also questions the validity of the "Blue Zones" concept, arguing that it oversimplifies the complex factors contributing to longevity. Highlighting the role of traditional diets in preventing modern diseases, Sanders supports regenerative agriculture and sustainable food production methods that align with natural dietary principles. He calls for a reevaluation of health industry biases and promotes informed dietary choices based on a blend of historical wisdom and scientific evidence. This dialogue with Brian Sanders offers a critical look at the myths and truths of nutrition science, urging viewers to rethink everything they know about food, health, and longevity in the context of ancestral knowledge and modern scientific insights. 72: Why Is Protein Causing HEART ATTACKS? NEW STUDY

Send us a text Starting with a critical look at a study featured in the NY Post, which suggests that "too much protein is bad for your arteries," Andrew questions the validity of these claims, pointing out the study's reliance on genetically modified mice prone to heart disease. He argues that applying these findings to humans is like comparing apples to oranges, especially when considering the specific types of protein and the conditions of the study. Delving deeper, Andrew exposes the bias in how these studies interpret protein consumption, highlighting the problematic generalization of all protein sources as equal contributors to heart risk. He challenges the notion that a high percentage of Americans consume excessive protein, debunking this with a practical analysis of what 22% protein intake looks like in real life. Through this, he emphasizes the importance of context, including the role of processed foods in the average American diet, and how it skews our understanding of protein's impact on health. Addressing the mechanistic study that pins leucine—an amino acid found in animal-derived foods—as a villain in cardiovascular health, Andrew critiques the leap from cellular studies to broad dietary recommendations. He points out the absurdity of demonizing specific nutrients based on isolated data, suggesting a more nuanced approach to nutrition that considers individual needs and balances. The video doesn't just stop at criticism; Andrew provides a balanced view by acknowledging the potential benefits of high protein diets, especially in combating obesity—a far more significant risk factor for heart disease. He calls out the fear-mongering surrounding protein and advocates for informed, nuanced discussions on nutrition that avoid sweeping generalizations and fear-based dietary advice. Wrapping up, Andrew issues a warning about the recurring theme of attacks on animal-derived foods, especially leucine-rich proteins, positing a broader agenda at play. He encourages viewers to look beyond the headlines, question the narratives, and make dietary choices based on comprehensive understanding and personal health goals. For anyone tired of the confusion and sensationalism surrounding nutrition, Andrew invites them to Holistic Motion for straightforward, no-nonsense health and fitness coaching. This video isn't just a debunking of myths; it's a call to action for a more informed, critical approach to what we're told about our diets.
