The Steel City Church

The Steel City Church

Steel City Church exists to help people learn and live the ways of Jesus. Steel City Church began to lay down roots during the summer of 2020 when several families, young professionals, and college students from the Carolinas and Pittsburgh faithfully joined together to form a community committed to learning and living the ways of Jesus. Our community continues to grow as we invite people like you, no matter where you are on your faith journey - skeptic, curious, newly following Jesus, or longtime follower of Jesus - to learn and live with us!

    Declared, Secure | Romans 8 Series | Romans 8:35-39 - Chris Richards || October 25

    What is your deepest fear? Underneath most of our fears is vulnerability, and no bank vault, security system, or insurance policy can answer the heart's real question: will I be separated from the One who loves me most? Chris Richards walks through Romans 8:35-39 and three truths for living declared secure. First, expect hardship even when you're faithful. Paul quotes Psalm 44, a lament for those who trust God but have more questions than answers, to remind us that suffering is not proof of God's absence; the cross, where the only perfectly faithful One was led like a lamb to the slaughter, was the very place God's saving love was at work. Second, we conquer through the One who conquered. We overwhelmingly conquer not by our own strength but because Jesus conquered sin and death, and we get to glory in his victory in the middle of tribulation, distress, anxiety, shame, and grief. Third, become convinced that nothing can separate you from his love. From Paul's own list of sufferings to every created thing we fear today or dread tomorrow, nothing can sever us from the love of God, because our security rests not on the strength of our grip on God but on the strength of his grip on us through Jesus Christ. Not condemned, alive in the Spirit, adopted, promised future glory, defended, and now secure: in Christ you are declared secure. Declared, Defended | Romans 8 Series | Romans 8:31-35 - Chris Richards || October 18

    Our series Living the Declarations of Romans 8 continues with Paul's five questions that are really statements of truth: "If God is for us, who can be against us?" (Romans 8:31) When accusations replay in your head, when condemnation keeps looping, or when a diagnosis or hard season makes it feel like God has abandoned you, where do you stand? Chris Richards walks through the five rhetorical questions of Romans 8:31-35, which all point to one answer: nobody can overturn what God has done. If God is for us, no opposition gets the final word. If God did not spare his own Son, he has not abandoned us now; he is not a cosmic Santa Claus, and the Father gave up the Son for love. When the great accuser twists the truth of our failure into a lie about our identity, it is God who justifies and hands us Christ's righteousness. When we condemn ourselves, Christ Jesus, who died, was raised, and is seated at the right hand of God, is interceding for us as our advocate. And nothing, not tribulation, distress, persecution, or even death, can separate us from the love of Christ, because that love rests on his unchanging character and completed work, not on our circumstances. Because of the Father's love, the Son's completed work, and the Holy Spirit's power within you, in Christ you are defended from every angle. You are declared defended. Scripture references: Romans 8:31-35, Romans 8:1, Psalm 103:12, 1 John 2:1-2
