#161 - Playing Like Assholes w/ Cole Jackson - Ravens Preseason Week 1, O-Line Deep Dive, Ja'Kobi Lane & Declan Doyle

The UKRavens Podcast is back for Episode 161, with special guest Cole Jackson joining Ashley, James and Gordon to break down the Ravens’ first preseason action and what we’re learning about the 2026 team. With Cole on the show, there’s only one place to start: the offensive line. The guys take a deep dive into first-round pick Vega Ioane’s Ravens debut, the developing battle at centre and why Jovon Gwynn could be forcing his way into the conversation. With Danny Pinter suffering an injury during joint practices, what does Baltimore’s starting interior offensive line now look like, and has Dwayne Ledford already started to make his mark? There’s also plenty of discussion around Carson Vinson’s continued development, Emery Jones’ difficult start and which offensive linemen could find themselves fighting for a place on the final 53. Away from the trenches, the Ja'Kobi Lane hype train shows no signs of slowing down. After impressing throughout training camp, Lane delivered when the pads came on and is beginning to look like a genuine part of Baltimore’s plans for 2026. Elijah Surratt also catches the eye, while Cole explains why Declan Doyle’s formations and use of stacked receivers could help Baltimore’s young pass catchers make an immediate impact. Matthew Hibner provides another preseason highlight at tight end, while the early signs from Doyle’s new offense have the guys increasingly excited about what could be coming when Lamar Jackson takes over. Under-centre play action, bootlegs and a more sophisticated passing game could create some fascinating possibilities for the two-time MVP. On defense, the early signs from Jesse Minter are equally encouraging. The secondary depth impresses, Robert Longerbeam and Keondre Jackson make their cases for roster spots, and the guys look at the pressure packages and coverage rotations already beginning to appear in Minter’s scheme. There’s also discussion around Tyler Loop and the kicking situation, the biggest winners and losers from the opening preseason game, and some remarkably quick injury recoveries in Baltimore. Finally, the show reflects on the sad passing of former Raven O.J. Brigance and the enormous impact he had on the Ravens organisation, its players and the wider Baltimore community. Plus, the UKRavens 2026 meetups are here, with ten events planned across the UK as the new season approaches.

#160 - Catching Up on the Summer - What's new for the Baltimore Ravens headed into the 2027 season.

In this week’s episode of the UKRavens Podcast, Ian is joined by James and Gordon as the pod returns from its offseason break with Ravens football finally back on the horizon. With training camp underway and the first preseason game just days away, there is plenty to catch up on as Baltimore prepares for the 2026 season. The conversation begins with the biggest news of camp so far: Zay Flowers’ four-year, $140 million extension. The guys break down the numbers behind the deal, why the headline figure doesn’t necessarily tell the full story and how the rising salary cap could make the contract look increasingly good value over time. There is also discussion around Flowers’ standing amongst the NFL’s best receivers, his chemistry with Lamar Jackson and why a new-look offense under Declan Doyle could finally give him the opportunity to produce the numbers his talent deserves. Attention then turns to the rest of the wide receiver room. Rashod Bateman’s comments about moving around the formation spark a discussion about whether a more varied role, including increased snaps from the slot, could finally unlock another level from the former first-round pick. And then there’s the training camp darling everyone is talking about: Ja'Kobi Lane. After a string of spectacular catches and glowing reports from Ravens camp, the guys revisit their pre-draft evaluations of Lane and ask how much of the hype is real. His outstanding contested-catch ability is clear, but questions remain around separation, beating press coverage and how quickly those areas can develop at NFL level. There is also discussion about what his rookie role might actually look like and whether he could become the big-bodied, contested-catch target Lamar has often lacked. On defense, the unexpected return of Nnamdi Madubuike provides another major reason for optimism. The guys discuss what his return could mean for a defensive front already strengthened by Trey Hendrickson, and how Jesse Minter and Anthony Weaver could transform a pass rush that struggled to generate pressure consistently last season. With Travis Jones, Mike Green and a number of young players also in the mix, could Baltimore go from one of its biggest weaknesses to possessing one of the league’s most dangerous defensive fronts? With preseason football approaching, attention turns to the players and position battles worth watching against the Eagles. The offensive line remains one of the biggest questions, with rookie Vega Ioane, the centre competition and new offensive line coach Dwayne Ledford all under the microscope. There is also a deep defensive back battle developing, while players such as TJ Tampa, Robert Longerbeam and Rayshaun Benny have an opportunity to make their case for roster spots. Finally, the guys discuss rookie running back Adam Randall and what the converted wide receiver needs to show during preseason as he competes for a role behind Derrick Henry. The episode closes with a huge shoutout to Fantasy Phil for organising another enormous UKRavens Fantasy Football competition, featuring nine divisions and 108 teams from across the community.

#159 - Ravens 2026 Draft Reaction & Breakdown - First ever LIVE UKRavens Podcast 🎥

In this week’s episode of the UKRavens Podcast, Ashley is joined by Ian, James and Gordon for a landmark show as the pod goes fully live and in person for the first time ever. Recorded in a studio setting and also available in video on YouTube, this episode captures the full energy of draft weekend as the crew break down the Ravens’ entire 2026 draft class and what it means for the future of the franchise.   Fresh off a weekend that saw the UK Ravens community come together in Manchester, the episode opens with reflections on the live watch party atmosphere, player appearances from Zay Flowers and LaJohntay Wester, and the growing presence of the Ravens in the UK. That energy carries straight into a comprehensive breakdown of all eleven draft picks, with detailed discussion on scheme fit, roster impact and how this class begins to reshape the identity of the team.   The conversation starts in the trenches with first round pick Vega Ioane, a tone setting addition to the interior offensive line. There is in-depth analysis of his elite pass protection, how he immediately upgrades the protection in front of Lamar Jackson, and what his arrival means for the direction of the offense under Declan Doyle. That theme continues into round two with Zion Young, a powerful edge defender whose physicality and run defense signal a return to a more traditional “play like a Raven” style on defense.   From there, the episode explores the more polarising middle rounds, including the addition of wide receivers Ja'Kobi Lane and Elijah Sarratt. The group debate the Ravens’ decision to double dip at the position, contrasting Lane’s high ceiling, athletic profile with Sarratt’s consistency and production, and what both players could bring to a reshaped passing attack alongside Zay Flowers and Rashod Bateman.   There is also detailed discussion around the Ravens’ approach to skill positions and versatility, including the tight end selections, the development projection for players like Matt Hibner, and how the offense may evolve towards heavier personnel groupings. Later round picks such as Chandler Rivers, Rayshaun Benny and Evan Bernstein are assessed in terms of depth, competition and potential to carve out roles on a crowded roster.   Beyond individual players, a major theme throughout the episode is the overall philosophy of the class. The panel reflect on how this draft feels like a shift back towards physicality, toughness and identity, with multiple “tone setting” picks that prioritise trench play and grit over flash. There is also discussion on how closely aligned the coaching staff and front office appear to be, and what that could mean for the Ravens’ trajectory under Jesse Minter and Declan Doyle.   The episode closes with a look at the undrafted free agent class, potential roster battles heading into camp, and early reactions to how this group could shape expectations for the 2026 season. With optimism high and a clear sense of direction emerging, this is a full, honest and in-depth breakdown of a pivotal draft for Baltimore.
