Glass, Ghosts and Lisa Frank with Andrea Guzzetta

It's the final episode of Season 5 and today, I’m thrilled to welcome Andrea Guzzetta, a multifaceted artist from Los Angeles known for her stunning oil paintings and her intricate glass painting work she’s done for many stained glass artists and studios that you know and love. Andrea’s personal work has been described as “if Lisa Frank forgot to take her Xanax” and blends the traditional techniques of classical painting with a pastel aesthetic. She uses her bold cheery palette to quote “explore themes of intimacy, vulnerability, and the hidden magic of small moments.”  I feel like Andrea and I really hit it off like old pals, and our chat took a delightful detour with, you know, lighthearted topics, like death, our beliefs about what happens when you die, using art to process fear, accepting mortality, and even ghost sightings. But don’t worry—we do get to glass, and when we do, this episode is packed with valuable insights. We cover everything from navigating Patreon and boosting Instagram engagement to choosing the right respirator for your studio and getting your work into that dream gallery you’ve been dying to show at. Join me as I crack it all wide open! To see more of Andrea’s work her instagram is @andreaguzzetta and mine is @runaglassworks.  For all the Patreon members Andrea made an exclusive glass pattern. I love that this pattern isn't too complicated, it’s only got 8 pieces so it's perfect if you're at the beginning of your glass journey OR if you just want to bang out a smaller piece in between your larger projects. If you make it please please send pics to Andrea and I!!! Inked in Glass with Heather Dawn

Welcome back to Cracked with Chevonne Ariss! Today is the 60th episode! Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Heather Dawn, a super talented stained glass artist who splits her time between Phoenix Arizona and her hometown of  New York. Heather began her journey into stained glass in 2015, learning the art alongside her mother.  Her fused and stained glass work  is heavily inspired by American traditional tattooing and the southwest; The bold black outlines characteristic of traditional tattoos making a perfect match for the solder lines used in stained glass. Heather’s glass journey, like many of us is complex, where her deeply personal life experience, her grief and joy, is intricately woven in with her personal style. In this episode, we'll dive into Heather's story and the techniques she uses to bring her striking visions to life.  Join me as I crack it all wide open… To see more of Heather’s work her instagram is @heatherdawnglassworks.  And mine is @runaglassworks  For the glass cutting hack that Heather shared that she had made a video for, she also sent me a photo, I just posted that photo on my website on her episode page, so take a look:   For the Patreon page members Heather made one of her super cute painted horseshoes, measurements are about 4” wide by 5” tall. Break It or Take It with Jordan Benson

Welcome to another episode of Cracked with Chevonne Ariss!  Today, I have the pleasure of speaking with groundbreaking, Australian artist Jordan Benson. Jordan's work offers a modern twist on our traditional craft, drawing inspiration from the gritty, raw aesthetic of street art. His pieces capture the beauty found in urban life, transforming everyday scenes into stunning visual narratives. But Jordan's creativity doesn't stop there. His  practice extends to kiln forming, etching, glass painting and beyond, showcasing his dedication to exploring and mastering various mediums. From his vivid oil painted canvases to his innovative stained glass, Jordan's work reflects a commitment to making art a part of our everyday experience. My favorite thing about Jordan is his passion and excitement for glass. It’s really  infectious. Keep listening and you’ll see what I mean.  Join me as I crack it all wide open! To see more of Jordan’s work, his instagram is @jordanb_art and mine is @@runaglassworks  Jordan designed the Cracked graphic we spoke about and I made some stickers as well as a limited run of tshirts. Glass Breaker’s Club with Korina Oswald

Today on Cracked with Chevonne Ariss speaking with Korina Oswald, a stained glass artist based in Seattle, WA where she lives with her husband and children.  Currently, her artistic practice is focused on community-based projects liker her glass quilt that involve artists from around the world. She first conceived this project in the aftermath of COVID’s isolation.  Much like quilt-making, glass has long been relegated to “craft” and it’s artistry has not been acknowledged nearly enough by the mainstream art world. Oswald seeks to broaden the conversation of what constitutes fine art by creating a piece so large that it cannot be ignored. Korina’s truly my twin flame in community building. Here’s the thing about Korina (and if you know her you already know this): Whenever I’m talking to her I feel like we’re whispering, on the verge of giggles, the entire time. She and I have an inside joke but I have no idea what it is. Korina was the first interview I did for this season and so whenever I would mention her name to everyone after, everyone smiles, and I think that’s the thing about Korina that makes sense that she’s so good at doing community work. Today Korina and I are going to discuss some of her personal work as well as her community projects, their future and how you could and should get involved!!!  Join me as I crack it all wide open!! To see more of Korina’s work, her instagram is @korinaoswald and mine is @runaglassworks  For the Cracked Patreon members Korina is gifting one of her gorgeous plant trellises. I’ll be doing a drawing for that the 15th of September, 2024. She also made a stretching studio playlist for all of the Patreon members to enjoy. I love this- she made the playlist 25 minutes long so that you know when it ends, it’s time to stop what you’re doing and move around, stretch and I quote,  “give your dang neck a break” :) I did go to Seattle to see Korina and the amazing crew at Fremont Antique Glass this spring! Shout out to them and thanks again for taking the time you did with me. Sculpting Skylines with Tom Fruin

Welcome back to Cracked with Chevonne Ariss!  Today, I’m honored to have Tom Fruin join me. Known for his large-scale installations, Tom uses steel and brightly colored plexiglass to create monumental sculptures. Tom’s work stands out not only for its visual impact but also for its commitment to accessibility and sustainability with his use of reclaimed materials.  You may already be familiar with Tom’s work but just didn’t know the artist behind the pieces. Fruin's largest installation to date, the Watertower series, is installed on multiple rooftops across New York City and around the country.   Tom, who grew up in Los Angeles and now lives and works in Brooklyn, New York, shares with me today his experiences and insights into the world of large-scale installations.  Join me as I crack it all wide open… To see more of Tom’s work, his instagram is @tomfruin and mine is @runaglassworks.   For a lucky Patreon page member Tom is gifting some stickers and one of his glass patchwork candles. The best part: as the candle burns down, the colors glow through the glass it’s really pretty! I’ll be doing the drawing for that September 8th, 2024. Wild Wonders and Botanical Brilliance with Juliet Forrest

Today, I have stained glass artist and glass painter Juliet Forrest join me from Sheffield, United Kingdom. Juliet's work is celebrated for its intricate and so very delicate and expressive depictions of flora and fauna, capturing the imagination with their stunning detail,  She’s also know for her  masterful use of color,  incredible depth and movement, each piece a somehow more dynamic and immersive experience than the last. When planning for this interview and messaging with Juliet jokingly said she only had anti-hacks, but turns out she’s actually  got more hacks for us today than any other episode of the season! And they are really good ones you will want to incorporate into how you work moving forward…  Join me as I crack it all wide open! To see more of Juliet’s work, her instagram is @juliet_forrest_glass and mine is @runaglassworks .
