I have to say, "The Optimistic Curmudgeon" hosted by Josh Herring is one of the worst podcasts I've ever listened to. First off, the guy is totally full of himself. He spends so much time talking about how great he is and all the things he knows, it's like he thinks he's the smartest person in the world. Honestly, it's super annoying and kind of sad to listen to.
The biggest problem with this podcast is how Herring is completely absorbed in his own little world. It's like he lives in a bubble where only his opinions matter. He constantly talks about his "classical education" like it's some kind of magical thing that makes him better than everyone else. Spoiler alert: it doesn't. His obsession with old books and philosophers just makes him sound out of touch and pretentious.
What really gets on my nerves is how arrogant he is. He acts like he's doing everyone a huge favor by sharing his "wisdom," but most of the time he's just repeating the same boring stuff over and over. There's no room for different opinions or ideas on his show, just his own narrow-minded views. It's honestly painful to sit through.
Now, I do agree with some of Herring's core classical beliefs. The idea that studying classical literature and philosophy could help improve America's education system and even our society as a whole is something I actually support. However, Herring does a horrible job of conveying these beliefs. Instead of making them accessible and interesting, he turns them into long-winded lectures that make people want to tune out rather than tune in.
Another thing that bugs me is how boring the podcast is. You'd think someone who loves talking as much as Herring does would at least be interesting, but no. His episodes are filled with long, pointless rants that go nowhere. He spends so much time talking in circles that you forget what the original topic even was. It's a total waste of time.
Overall, "The Optimistic Curmudgeon" is a disaster. Between Herring's arrogance, his obsession with his own education, and his boring, repetitive content, there's really nothing worth listening to. If you want to hear someone drone on about how great they think they are, go ahead and give it a try. But for anyone else, I'd recommend staying far, far away from this one.
