    World of Jazz Special - Dave Holland at 80

    For this special edition of World of Jazz I have put together playlist marking the eightieth birthday of one of jazz’s outstanding bass players. Dave Holland stands as one of the most visionary and enduring architects of modern jazz. From cutting his teeth in the adventurous British underground of the mid-1960s to joining Miles Davis at the cusp of the trumpeter’s memorable musical change, and, subsequently, as a leader, steering some of the most inventive small groups and large bands in contemporary music, the Wolverhampton-born bassist and composer has spent nearly six decades continuously redefining the genre. His milestone year celebrates a peerless legacy of rigorous innovation, exceptional craftsmanship, and a standard of leadership that has shaped the course of modern jazz across generations. The playlist provides examples from throughout his career and concludes with tracks from an excellent new box set released by Edition records and curated by Dave himself.
