There is a spiritual battle taking place in our world—but people are not the enemy. Scripture describes a world in which human beings can become captive to lies, sin, fear, and spiritual powers they may not even recognize. Yet Jesus came to destroy the works of the devil, liberate humanity, and recover the dominion that was lost. In this episode of the Get In the Game teaching series, Steve Pixler explores the biblical reality of spiritual warfare and what the New Testament calls rulers, authorities, cosmic powers, and spiritual forces of evil. Spiritual warfare can be exaggerated and even sensationalized. But denying its reality leaves us unable to understand the arena in which God's Kingdom is advancing. As Paul reminds us: We do not wrestle against flesh and blood. Our battle is not with people. This episode goes beyond the individual experience of spiritual warfare to examine how spiritual powers can influence human relationships, cultures, institutions, and systems. Steve introduces the biblical concept of the stoicheia—the elemental powers or spirit-systems through which fallen powers seek to exploit human lust, greed, pride, and self-interest. But the message does not end with the powers of darkness. Jesus has already defeated them. Through His death, resurrection, and ascension, Christ disarmed the rulers and authorities, recovered human dominion, and now reigns above every rule, authority, power, and dominion. And He has commissioned His church to participate in that victory. In this teaching you'll discover: • Why spiritual warfare is real without making everything about demons • How Satan uses lies, fear, and sin to enslave human beings • Why repentance and truth are weapons of liberation • What Paul means when he says our struggle is not against flesh and blood • Who the biblical "principalities and powers" are • How the powers seek influence through human systems and institutions • What Paul means by the Greek term stoicheia • Why people—not political, religious, or cultural opponents—must never become our enemy • How Jesus disarmed the powers through the cross and resurrection • What the "keys of the Kingdom" mean for the church today • Why Christ's victory is a victory in which His people are called to participate God works in the world as it is, not as we wish it was. There is real resistance. There is a real battle. But there is also a victorious King—and His church has been called to get in the game.
