Episode 2: Breaking Stigma - Starting With Us

Hey guys! Happy New Year! We can't believe it's 2022! Today's episode is the first half of a two part episode. Well, it was technically supposed to be one, but we thought it would be easier to hear in separate episodes. We share about why we do what we do, our cultural background and Ellen shares a bit about her own personal journey with mental health, along with her experience of sharing about Post-traumatic Stress and the responses received whilst in a Chinese and Christian community.  There are some trigger warnings in this episode which we have included below. While we try our best to mention the common ones in each episode, we acknowledge each person can be triggered by something unique and may have missed something that is triggering for you. (One correction, Ellen refers to trauma expert Gabor Mate and his statement more correctly is “Trauma is not what happens to you. Trauma is what happens inside of you as a result of what happens to you.” This explains that a trauma response is not just about the event itself, but about what happens inside of us as a result of what happened.) Thank you for joining us, please join us next week for our next episode where Erika shares briefly about her own personal journey with mental health in her University years and in her postpartum journey. Possible Spoiler Alert Encanto Disney Movie (34:13 - 35:21) Trigger Warning Time Stamps Post-traumatic Stress (PTS) (20:43 - 22:20) Ellen's sharing of her own journey with mental health mentions this topic overall. While we try to time stamp it, please be aware there is an underlining reference of it in her sharing after the above time stamp as well.  LINKS Practice Website Erika Kim Counselling Ellen Yun Counselling Instagram Dubu Or Not Tofu  Erika Kim Counselling  Ellen Yun Counselling Counselling Directories The Association of Christian Counsellors (ACC) The British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) The Counselling Directory The National Counselling Society The UK Council for Psychotherapy  Mental Health Crisis Helplines The Samaritans: Call 116 to talk about anything upsetting you.
