The Queens of the Racetrack: an interview with Brooklands Museum

To celebrate womens history month we bring a special episode where I interview Rosie Maggs from the Brooklands Museum about the amazing female racers that could be seen at Brooklands in Surrey. Rosie delves into the life of three women: Elsie 'Bill' Wisdom, Jessie Ennis and Kay Petre and their story racing at Brooklands. Each tale is full of thrills, crashes and inspiring moments that are definitely worthy of their own film. For womens history month Brooklands are dedicating the entire month to sharing the stories of these women, and more, on all of their socials. The Clash of Cruise Liners: The RMS Carmania vs the SMS Cap Trafalgar

Whoever thought that sticking cannons onto ocean liners was a good idea needs to be referred to in a psychiatric ward... but my god is the idea funny! With submarines causing havoc on shipping lanes and the sudden end to the rules of naval warfare the British and Germans began divising new ways to shoot at each other. One of these ideas involved converting ocean liners into battleships that could attack when no one would expect it. But in 1914 two of these ships, the RMS Carmania and the SMS Cap Trafalgar, encountered each other out at sea. There was only one way this encounter was going to end... all out war! But who wins the unexpected duel at sea? Stay tuned to find out. The Hunt for Brunanburh: the battle that made England!

The history of England is full of battles, but which has been referred to as the battle that made England? The general consensus is that it was the battle of Brunanburh, an epic clash between the Anglo-Saxon king Æthelstan against a coalition of vikings, Scots, Welsh (or Britons) and Irishmen. It was the battle that marked the first time England would be a united kingdom under one banner. But despite it's significance, we don't know where the battle actually took place. So join me as I go through a crash course in Anglo-Saxon history as well as delve into the debate over where the battle took place.
