    The Sheathed Sword

What does it really mean to be meek? In this episode, we challenge the modern idea that biblical meekness means being passive, timid, or harmless. Through the examples of Moses, David, and Jesus, we explore how Scripture presents meekness as strength under control, power that is disciplined, surrendered, and used with wisdom. From confronting Pharaoh to sparing Saul to Jesus cleansing the temple, the Bible shows that godly strength is not about avoiding conflict, but about knowing when to act, when to hold back, and who ultimately governs your power. We also look at how this applies to everyday life: anger, leadership, ambition, boundaries, courage, self-control, and the responsibility that comes with influence. With a little help from Uncle Iroh and Avatar: The Last Airbender, this episode asks a simple but challenging question: Is your sword always drawn, or have you never forged one at all? If you are trying to grow in Christian leadership, biblical masculinity, spiritual maturity, emotional discipline, and faith-driven courage, this conversation will help you rethink what strength looks like when it is fully submitted to God.

The Word the Western Church Forgot

In this episode of The Parliament Raven, Jason Rodriguez explores a word that has largely faded from the vocabulary of Western Christianity: martyr. From Stephen in Acts 7 to the early Church fathers and believers facing persecution today, the episode examines what Christian martyrdom really means, not simply dying, but remaining a faithful witness to Christ when denial would be easier, safer, or even life-saving. The discussion also looks at how persecution shaped the early Church and why the courage of persecuted Christians still matters for believers living in relative comfort. But martyrdom is not only about physical death. Jesus calls every Christian to “take up his cross daily,” which means surrendering pride, ego, comfort, resentment, false ambition, and the identities we build apart from Him. Using Scripture and even a journey into The Lord of the Rings, this episode asks a difficult but necessary question: What are you willing to lay down in order to keep following Christ? It is a call to remember persecuted believers, pray for the global Church, and rediscover a Christianity built not on comfort, but on conviction, endurance, and faithful obedience.

    Temptation Is Training Your Brain

What if temptation is doing more than trying to make you fail in a single moment? In this episode, The Parliament Raven explores how repeated thoughts, habits, and choices can shape the brain through neuroplasticity. Using a fascinating piano study, Scripture, and real-life examples like doomscrolling, comparison, anger, lust, and anxiety, we look at how the mind can become trained by what it repeatedly practices. James 1:14–15 shows temptation as a process, while Romans 12:2 points us toward the deeper solution: transformation through the renewal of the mind. We also look at the other side of the equation, how prayer, Scripture, worship, gratitude, Sabbath rest, and intentional thought can help retrain our minds toward truth. Philippians 4:8 reminds us to focus on what is true, honorable, pure, lovely, and worthy of praise. The challenge is simple: stop asking only, “Did I resist temptation?” and start asking, “What kind of mind am I becoming?” Because patterns become pathways, pathways become habits, and habits help shape character.

    The Blue Banana Principle

In this episode, The Parliament Raven, introduces “The Blue Banana Principle,” a practical way to understand the fruit of the Spirit without falling into comparison. Using the image of blue Java bananas, red bananas, plantains, and the familiar yellow banana, Jason explains that the same fruit can have different expressions. In the same way, love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control do not always look the same in every believer. This conversation challenges listeners to stop asking why their faith does not look like someone else’s and start asking whether their fruit is growing from the right root. Jason connects Scripture, everyday life, personal stories, and even nerd culture like Final Fantasy, Fire Emblem, and Dungeons & Dragons to show how every person has a unique role in the body of Christ. The invitation is simple: abide in Christ, stay rooted, stop copying someone else’s fruit, and faithfully live out what God is growing in you.

    When Salt Loses Its Purpose

In this episode, The Parliament Raven, takes a deeper look at one of the most quoted and misunderstood statements of Jesus: “You are the salt of the earth” from Matthew 5:13. Instead of treating salt as only a symbol of flavor, this episode explores its first-century purpose as something essential for preservation, healing, purification, covenant, and daily life. Jesus was not calling His followers to be interesting; He was calling them to live according to the purpose God had already given them. Through historical context, biblical reflection, and practical application, this episode challenges Christians to ask whether their presence actually changes the places God has placed them. Are we preserving what is good, helping heal what is broken, purifying what has been corrupted, and enriching the lives around us? Salt does not exist for itself. It quietly transforms whatever it touches. So before you finish your tea, ask yourself: if Christ placed you in your family, workplace, church, or neighborhood, would anything actually change?

    Growing Capacity For the Journey

In this episode of The Parliament Raven, explores why Christians should stop praying only for breakthrough and start asking God for capacity. Using biblical examples like David, Joseph, Moses, Esther, Peter, and Paul, this message shows how God often uses pressure, waiting, obstacles, and discomfort to build the character needed to carry the calling. From Scripture to stories like One Piece, Naruto, The Goonies, and Lord of the Rings, Jason connects faith, spiritual growth, discipleship, and personal development in a way that challenges how we see delays and trials. Breakthrough without capacity can become collapse, but when God forms us through the process, we become ready for what comes next. This Christian teaching encourages believers to embrace consistency, correction, humility, stewardship, and spiritual maturity instead of chasing visibility, platforms, or quick success. If you are in a waiting season, facing an obstacle, or wondering why God has not opened the door yet, this episode will help you see that the journey may be preparing you for the blessing. Pull up a seat, pour yourself some tea, and let’s talk about how God builds capacity before breakthrough.

Tea and Theology: Growth That Comes In Time

Pull up a seat and pour yourself a cup of tea. In this episode of The Parliament Raven, we talk about why God rarely seems to be in a hurry, why spiritual growth cannot be microwaved, and how Scripture teaches us to let faith steep through patience, trials, and presence. From James 1 to John 21, we walk through steadfastness, hospitality, the incarnation, Jesus making breakfast after the resurrection, and the slow work of the Holy Spirit. Maybe God is not behind schedule; maybe He is forming you one faithful conversation, one quiet prayer, and one warm cup at a time.
