    Hey Sis…Stop the cape’ing!

    Woman of color have a history of carrying the burden of traumatic and harmful experiences in secrecy. These events often start in childhood then carried into adulthood. It’s then reflected on how we raise our Children. Even in times of blatant disparities we are propelled to be resilient and survive in silence. Yet, the mentality that black women are naturally strong and should continue to pull ourselves up by our Afro puffs with a smile is harmful to our mental, and physical health as well. What are some of the ways we can resolve the Black Super Woman syndrome, and close the Mental health gap between Black woman and undiagnosed mental disorders? Let’s take off our cape!

    What is Toxic femininity?

    A teacher who tells you to “act like “a lady when you show assertiveness. Being pressured to have children because “that’s what women do” and what about your girlfriends who says you’re single because Men find your confidence intimidating. Toxic femininity is promoted on every social media platform we consume. Let’s talk about how it affects our mental health as well as our physical health.

    “I want a lady in the streets, and a freak in the bed” is a common phrase that most Men use to describe their lady. what is being described is a balanced female, someone you can bring home to meet your parents, and someone that can keep it mysterious in the bedroom. In the words of Ludicrous “we want a lady in the streets, but a freak in the bed”

    June is Men’s mental health Month. We are in a mental health crisis; yet Black men are less likely than than their white peers to seek out therapy. Research shows that black men who experience feelings of anxiety or depression are about half as likely to seek counseling as their white peers.
