    New Heavens and New Earth

    The sermon points to the Bible’s “end goal” as not simply Christians leaving earth to go to heaven, but Jesus returning to renew creation—bringing “new heavens and a new earth” where God dwells with His people forever. Nick emphasizes that Revelation (especially chapter 21) is meant to produce hope, not fear: God will make all things new, wipe away every tear, end death and pain, and bring His finished work to its final fulfillment. He connects this future renewal to the whole storyline of Scripture: God’s presence with humanity in Eden, the brokenness and suffering creation experiences now, and the promise that present sufferings can’t compare to coming glory. Creation itself “groans” for restoration, and believers are called to live in patient endurance and holiness while waiting for Christ’s return—already citizens of earthly nations, but with ultimate allegiance and citizenship belonging to God’s kingdom. The sermon also holds together hope and warning. Heaven is described as the full presence of God, while hell is the full removal of God’s presence—an eternal separation chosen by those who reject Him. Revelation’s list of sins is used to show the seriousness of judgment and the need for repentance, while also reminding listeners that salvation rests in Jesus, who was God’s plan from the beginning, not an afterthought. Nick acknowledges that faithful Christians may disagree on details of end-times teaching, and he doesn’t claim to have every answer. But the main invitation is clear: don’t delay responding to Christ. Trust Him, stay faithful, and live now in light of the coming day when Jesus completes what He began—renewing the world and bringing His people into eternal life with God in the new creation.

    What Will the Return of Christ be Like?

    Paul’s letters to the Thessalonian church were written to reassure believers who were shaken by persecution and confused about what happens when Jesus returns—especially worried that Christians who had already died might “miss out.” The sermon explains that Scripture repeatedly calls the church to live with hopeful expectation because Jesus really will return, but not on a date we can predict. His return will be visible and unmistakable—coming from heaven in the clouds—and it will bring both mourning for those who have clung to sin and refused his rule, and comfort for those who belong to him. Jesus is portrayed as “faithful and true,” the King of Kings and Lord of Lords, returning with absolute authority to defeat evil and establish his reign. A key comfort comes from 1 Thessalonians 4: when Jesus descends with a shout, the voice of an archangel, and the trumpet of God, “the dead in Christ” will rise first. Those believers are not forgotten; they are the first to be raised and the first to meet the Lord. Then living believers will be caught up with them to meet Jesus, and from that moment they will be with him forever. This hope is meant to steady grieving hearts and replace fear with encouragement.

    Philip the Non-Conformist Preacher

    What if the very road God sends you down looks like a dead end—a desert path with no clear destination? In Acts 8:25–40, Philip demonstrates radical, Spirit-led obedience when an angel commands him to leave a thriving revival in Samaria and travel alone to a barren desert road. There, in what Pastor Nick calls a divine appointment written across centuries, Philip encounters an Ethiopian eunuch—a powerful royal treasurer who had traveled 1,200 miles to worship at the Jerusalem temple, only to be turned away because of who he was. Yet this man refused to let rejection define his pursuit of God; he bought a scroll of Isaiah and kept seeking. Pastor Nick draws a powerful parallel between Philip's journey and his own friend John—a stonemason-turned-pastor who delivered a breathtaking message of hope at his own son's funeral—reminding us that God doesn't define us by who we were, but by who He's calling us to become.     Do we still need that knife?

    What if the very people meant to welcome others into faith have instead become the gatekeepers keeping them out? Pastor Nick delivered a powerful message rooted in Acts 15, where Jewish believers demanded Gentile Christians follow the entire law of Moses before being accepted—a burden, Peter declared, that "neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear." Pastor Nick's distinctive insight cuts to the heart: when we appoint ourselves as the Holy Spirit's enforcement arm—targeting others with our personal convictions and spiritual timelines—we don't sharpen people's faith, we orphan them from it. He reminded the congregation that the Spirit of God knows every person more intimately than they know themselves, and He has a sovereign, perfectly timed plan to reveal truth to each heart. Whether you've been wounded by someone else's spiritual gatekeeping or quietly guilty of imposing your own convictions on others, grace meets you right there. The two great commandments—love God completely, love your neighbor as yourself—fulfill everything. Don't wait for someone else's permission to pursue Jesus. Stop standing in the way of others. And if God nudges you toward that one person today, don't hesitate—go.
