Magnesium: What Could Possibly Go Wrong?

Magnesium is the biggest underdog in the dietary world... When you’re low in magnesium, A LOT CAN GO WRING! You can have muscle cramps. You can get headaches, migraines especially have been tied to low magnesium. But also tension headaches occur when the muscles get tight in the back of the neck because of muscle cramping and tightness. These are symptoms of low magnesium. You get those muscles tight in the back of your neck, it’s going to refer to your head and give you a headache. Low magnesium has also been tied to constipation because it influences the way normal gut function works, so constipation is really common. You may have cardiovascular issues like high blood pressure, hypertension. When your blood pressure is going up, it’s oftentimes a sign that you’re low on magnesium. Also have you had the experience where it feels like your heart is kind of skipping beats, or racing and slowing down and then you feel kind of a big heartbeat? That’s called heart palpitations, or cardiac arrhythmia, where the rhythm of the heart is a little bit off. You’re not getting normal cardiac rhythm. Other causes can be associated with that as well, but magnesium is something that needs to be ruled out because it’s so easy to fix if we find that it’s actually the issue. ...And let's not forget SLEEP.  Magnesium is a must for restful sleep. Listen to this episode from Dr. Chad Larson to learn more about Magnesium and the different types. What types of Magnesium works and what doesn't and much more! This episode brought to you by PURE Prescriptions The Magnesium Recommended in this Podcast is Magnesium Glycinate

    Are you Metabolically Healthy?

This Podcast  is Made Possible with Help from Pure Prescriptions. Are you Metabolically Healthy? Are You Carb/Calorie Camp or Insulin Camp? Dr. Chad Larson here... Where do I fall in the continuum if the carbohydrate-insulin model is on one end of the spectrum, and the caloric model is on the other end? I’m slightly off of the center toward the insulin model, but I’ve got a very particular reason for that. The reason is that there’s a great study that was published a couple years ago, and it explains to us that only 12% of adults in the U.S. are metabolically healthy. That means 88% are metabolically unhealthy. What do we mean by that? We mean that the 88% of people who are metabolically unhealthy have got blood sugar dysregulation, or they might have some degree of heart disease, or their triglycerides are probably elevated.Their waist circumference is above 40 inches in men and 35 inches in women, and they probably have high blood pressure. Any one of those symptoms or signs puts somebody in the metabolically unhealthy camp. And this research actually includes 20 year olds. Twenty year olds are typically healthier than 45 year olds or 60 year olds, so I think their inclusion in this study dramatically influences those percentages. If we actually kept the study to people aged 40 years and older, that 88% would probably go to something like 98%. In other words, we’d probably find that only two to five percent of adults ages 40 and older are metabolically healthy. So it’s a big, big problem in the U.S. It’s major. I think it’s the problem of our time, especially as a healthcare provider.
