Thought this was fascinating albeit most unfortunate. Amassing wealth and power while society crumbles directly outside your gated walls and windows…. It’s the precursor to the billionaire bunker, the aspirations of an attractive though thoroughly mediocre JPMorgan employee - that whiff of influence over a third world country only to be sequestered in Moscow. Ouch.

I appreciate the reporting and learning more about the conflict and the brutal regime. I didn’t appreciate the premise that because Asma grew up in Britain she would have had some better moral compass than the others involved in the regime. If you consider the British empire I would say that growing up there wouldn’t exempt her from trying to take personal advantage of people in conflict, or stealing money from NGOs, but instead would set her up quite nicely .

Thank you. Have always wondered about this English born and educated woman - how could she have stood by and just watched. The series attempts to analyse and explain. Sadly the reason is probably more obvious than we like to think!
