In this month’s TruckChat: Top Monthly News Recap, we’re looking beyond the truck itself at everything that has to work around it to keep a fleet moving. That starts with technology. We explore how drones, robotics, and mobile command hubs are changing disaster response, giving emergency teams a faster view of damaged areas while turning work trucks into launch points, charging stations, communications hubs, and mobile data centers. Manufacturing was another major theme this month. We take a closer look at what new U.S. tariffs on Canadian truck production could mean for American fleets. Electrification gets a reality check, too. Our look at what operators wish they knew before electrifying work vans goes beyond vehicle range to depot electrical capacity, utility timelines, upfit compatibility, route demands, driver policies, and why mixed-energy fleets may still make the most sense for many operations. We also dig into what happens when a work truck breaks down and the job can stop with it. For vocational fleets, roadside response may need to account for trailers, payloads, mounted equipment, jobsite access, and even how to keep the work moving while the disabled truck heads to the repair shop. We compare dry vans, platforms, and curtainsiders and look at how body selection can affect loading efficiency, cargo protection, downtime, and long-term costs. We also examine what stronger long-term fleet service partnerships actually require, including the warning signs that trust may be slipping long before a renewal conversation goes sideways. Quick industry updates include Geotab’s new Investigations tool, the new Future Truck Summit coming to Work Truck Week 2027, and Ford Fathom production taking shape in Louisville. We also have Fleet Forward Conference registration now open, a new Sourcewell purchasing option for Stellar Industries products, and a Linxup and LEEO partnership designed to help small and midsize fleets meet telematics requirements tied to commercial auto coverage. Plus, we had a little fun this month. We asked the companies themselves how to pronounce some of the work truck industry’s trickier names, so you can hopefully avoid that awkward moment on your next trade show floor. And August ended at Derby Downs, where Team Fletcher finished second overall at the Corporate Soap Box Derby.
