    By The Book — Episode 005 — Michel Cahen

    The sixth episode of By The Book was dedicated to ""Não Somos Bandidos". A vida diária de uma guerrilha de direita: a Renamo na época do Acordo de Nkomati (1983-1985)",   by Michel Cahen,  published by Imprensa de Ciências Sociais in 2019.  This is an innovative book regarding the history of Mozambique in the  post-colonial period (during key years of the civil war) and challenging  for historians due to the type of sources used. In it, we can learn  more about the daily life of the National Resistance of Mozambique,  RENAMO. Eric Morier Genoud was our guest reviewer and  Pedro Aires  Oliveira the  host. Portuguese was the language of choice. Production and editing was by Diana Barbosa. Funding was provided by the Foundation for Science and Technology. This episode was recorded in November 2021.     The fifth episode of By The Book was dedicated to "Historia del New  Deal. Conflicto y reforma durante la Gran Depresión", by Andreu Espasa,  published by Catarata in 2020. In this essay, Espasa reviews and analyses the history of the New Deal, the role played by the Roosevelt  administration, and the birth of neoliberalism in the United States of  America.     By The Book — Episode 004 — Julián Vadillo Muñoz

    The fourth episode of By The Book was dedicated to "Historia de la FAI. El anarquismo organizado", by Julián Vadillo Muñoz, and published by Catarata in 2021. The book takes us back to Iberia in the 1920's and 30's and the history of the Iberian Anarchist Federation (FAI), founded in Spain in 1927. In this lively conversation, Julián Vadillo Muñoz, Rubén Pérez, and Arturo Zoffmann exchange arguments on the history of anarchism, the relationship of the FAI with the National Confederation of Labor (CNT), and the broad political context in Europe at that time. The book is a provocative collection of  essays that reflect on the limits of History as a discipline, its  present challenges, and the "labyrinth" where historians need to move.  Arthur Lima de Ávila was our guest, alongside Caroline Guebert, who  provided a thorough comment on the book; Bruno Zorek was the host for  this episode.     The second episode of By The Book was dedicated to "¿La Rebeldía se Volvió de Derecha? Cómo el antiprogresismo y la anticorrección política están construyendo un nuevo sentido común", by Pablo Stefanoni, and published by Siglo Veintiuno Editores in 2021. The book is a historical synthesis about radical right-wing movements and how they are turning underground fanaticism into different forms of public adherence that are increasingly visible.
