To instill in people a true understanding of what this country COULD be, if the right people were fighting for it, and what it WILL be if they don’t. It’s a political podcast yes, but more than that, it’s a podcast about America’s potential, where one passionate, and slightly mouthy, immigrant attempts to motivate the country to become what it promised to be but, so far, has yet to become.     What If This Was All Different? : A Conversation with Nick Hanauer

    What could our country look like if we chose to do things differently? We know what we have is broken, so what if we build something new? As our guest Nick Hanauer says, America’s problems don’t just stem from political dysfunction, media fragmentation, or this us v. them tribalism that we’re all drawing in. While these are all real problems, in Nick’s mind, it all comes back to economics. As soon as we stopped believing that hard work equaled security, a good life, and the opportunity to move up, our faith in the system collapsed. That collapse left the door open for truly terrible/authoritarian alternatives. It allowed a bunch of nefarious people to came along and promised to fix everything or at least give you someone to blame. No. We can do WAY better than that. Fix the economy. Fix the country. We are drowning in moral decay in America right now and it’s demoralizing. The weakness and willingness for so many of our fellow citizens to choose the path of least resistance has led us to a place where this upcoming election is existential. It is everything. The opposition needs to win to simply keep our heads above water. It is up to all of us to not only save us with our votes now, but stay engage in the days and years to come to build something better than what we’ve ever had.     Indivisible’s Leah Greenberg reminds us that the powers that be want us to just give up. That they have done everything they can to disrupt the process of voting. To scare or discourage people out of voting. To make voting itself feel so uncertain that we forget we are still the ones with the power, and our power comes from our numbers. No Kings itself is a manifestation of those numbers, of our force and desire to show this country that we refuse to accept what’s happening. But No Kings is also about protecting the election and mobilizing for a post election response. It’s not just a rally this time. It’s hyper local voter turnout and, most importantly, a time to gather and train people for post election mobilization. As Leah says, what’s happening is “discouraging but it’s surmountable".     America Has a Problem with Men: A Conversation with Sami Sage

    In the past week, along with the horrendous Cornell 7, the news included: A man who jacked off to the woman next to him on a plane and United Airlines refused to deal with it, and made her go back to her seat. We discovered an LSU football player was found responsible for raping a girl, but the university lowered his accountability from suspension to probation in order to let him keep playing. A teenage boy was only given a restraining order after he stalked and stabbed a girl 10 times because she wouldn’t date him, and Vanderbilt University reported 50 cases of girls at the health center because of spiked drinks in the last week.
