S3E3 | Not Yet I: An Honest Conversation on Fertility & Faith

About this episode: This is one of the most personal conversations Olaoluwa has had on this podcast. In this episode she sits down with her friend Kelly Lundy to talk about something she has never spoken about openly before: the journey of waiting for a child. Over five and a half years of trying, navigating fertility doctors and naturopaths, a miscarriage, the monthly grief cycle that resets every four weeks, the tension between hope and control, and the question of where exactly you are supposed to place your trust when every test comes back negative. Kelly shares her journey with honesty and grace, including how finding a community of women walking the same road through Moms in the Making completely transformed her faith and her ability to hold onto hope. They also get into the nuances nobody talks about enough: navigating friendships when everyone around you is getting pregnant, the cultural differences in how pregnancy is announced and discussed, the toll infertility takes on intimacy in marriage, why men are so rarely included in the conversation, and how social media makes an already tender journey even harder. This one is not only for women waiting for a child. It is for anyone who has ever had to fight to hold onto hope in a season that will not move. About the Guest: Kelly Lundy lives in Bend, Oregon with her husband Chad, where they are currently building a house together. She is a kindergarten teacher at a private Christian school, a gardener, and a lover of all things summer and camping. Kelly co-leads the Bend Oregon chapter of Moms in the Making, a faith-based community for women walking through infertility, and shows up to that space with the kind of honesty and hope that only comes from living it. To find a group near you visit momsinthemaking.com Imole Moment: "If your hope is in that test every single month, you can't survive that kind of devastation without him. He is the hope, he is the peace, he is the joy." S3E2 | Japa IV: Thriving in an Unknown Land

About this episode: What does it mean to thrive in a land you did not choose, doing work you did not plan, building something you could not yet see? In this episode Olaoluwa sits down with her surrogate mother, Pastor Mrs. Olajumoke Elkanah, for a conversation about purpose, establishment, and what it looks like to keep going when nothing around you confirms where you are headed. From washing dishes in a restaurant kitchen in Georgia while telling herself she was made for more, to walking into her salon on opening day with no clients and simply asking God to bring them, this episode is a testimony from start to finish. They talk about what it means to sharpen your skills before your season arrives, why diligence for other people is the training ground for your own purpose, how the voice of God does not always sound like a vision and sometimes sounds like someone you cooked a meal for, and what it looks like to keep learning even after you have built something worth celebrating. Pastor Mrs. Elkanah also shares about Helping Hand Foundation, her nonprofit supporting families of children with disabilities in Nigeria, and how pain became the very thing that pointed her to purpose. This is a conversation for anyone who is trying to find their footing, anyone who feels stuck, and anyone who is already building but knows there is still more ahead. About the Guest: Pastor Mrs. Olajumoke Elkanah is the co-pastor of RCCG Winners Garden in Salem, Oregon. She has been in ministry since her teenage years, working across children's and youth ministry, monthly outreach for the homeless in Marion County, and women's ministry through Feast of Esther Oregon, an organization supporting pastors' wives and women in ministry. She also preaches at a local women's shelter. She is a licensed cosmetologist, the owner of Flourish Braids and Flourish African Foods, and the creator of her own line of African food products under the Flourish Spices brand. She holds a degree in accounting and finance and is certified in marketing with a background in banking. She is the author of 14 books, the founder of Helping Hand Foundation, and currently running Special Needs Story, an online series encouraging mothers of children with disabilities. She is married to Pastor Olawale Elkanah and they are blessed with four children. S3E1 | Church, Ministry and Family

About this episode: What better way to open a new season than with the woman who started it all. In this episode Olaoluwa sits down with her mother, Dr. Oloruntoyin Bakare, for a conversation that is equal parts personal, theological, and deeply honest. Dr. Oloruntoyin Bakare opens up about her journey from a Muslim family background to Christianity, how a Catholic primary school planted the seed of faith that her father, in an extraordinary act of acceptance, watered and supported. From nearly becoming a nun to preaching for a decade before receiving a divine call to full-time ministry in 2001, her story is a testament to what it looks like when purpose and preparation meet. They dive into raising children in ministry, the pressure placed on pastor's kids to be perfect, and the biblical mandate of stewarding your home while stewarding your calling. Dr. Bakare does not mince words: you can be busy for God and still be guilty. They also get honest about navigating church hurt, when to stay and when to leave, and in one of the most quietly powerful moments of the episode, Dr. Bakare shares what it meant to wait on God for 20 years for the fruit of the womb, preaching faith publicly while holding her own privately. This one closes with 1 Corinthians 15 vs. 58 - “Be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that your labor is not in vain.” About the Guest: Dr. Oloruntoyin Bakare is a Prophetess, preacher, teacher, and counselor with over 35 years of full time ministry experience. She holds an earned Doctorate in Church Ministry, is a member of the Institute of Chartered Theologians, and continues to lecture at a Bible school, teaching hundreds of students. Her ministry focuses on families, marriage, and singlehood. She is mother by birth to one covenant child and considers herself a mother to many through her decades of counseling and mentorship.
