What We Got Wrong About Addiction | With Asher Gottesman

Send us Fan Mail Asher is a spiritual entrepreneur, human connection coach and Rabbi in Southern California. His story began at home as a young child where all seemed well from the outside. As the youngest by nine years, he felt a horrible sense of abandonment. His loneliness was compounded by his father’s prominence as a rabbi and community leader where the pressure to appear as role models was insufferable. This resulted in a childhood eating disorder and drug use by age 14. Asher was 33 when he lost his multi-million-dollar business, with the resulting bankruptcy destroying what little self-worth he had as a provider to his family – he had hit rock-bottom. Asher found his road to recovery through the rooms of Alcoholics Anonymous, where despite the circle of anonymous faces, it was truly the first time in his life he felt the power of shared human connection through service to self and others. The experience marked the debut of an odyssey of self-discovery, trading ego for vulnerability, and leaving the pursuit of pleasure for the pursuit of meaning. Asher decidedly dedicated the rest of his career to helping others help themselves “restore wholeness” in their lives. Armed with a renewed sense of self, profound life experience, and entrepreneurial passion, Asher founded Transcend in 2008, building an internationally recognized recovery community. Now sober twelve years and counting, Asher has counseled hundreds of men and women and built a renowned reputation where he is recognized by his three hallmark pillars of recovery: Accountability, Community, and Unconditional Love. https://a.co/d/gbVDgp9 http://Ashergottesman.com https://www.instagram.com/theasherg?igsh=bjhpMW50OWYyeWh3 ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- https://wig-guru.com - Use Code 'Brainstorm' For 10% Off https://www.thevillagerecovery.org/ Email: Brainstormwithsony@gmail.com ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- For more Brainstorm go to... Sharing Her Story Changed Her Life | With Chaya Chanin

Send us Fan Mail Chaya Chanin is an entrepreneur and community builder based in Brooklyn. She co-founded The Frock NYC, The Gathering Community, and Kohelet Girls High School, and co-hosts Undecided & Committed, a real-time marriage podcast exploring love, complexity, and addiction as it’s actually lived. She lives in Crown Heights with her Husband Moishe and their 4 children. The Village is a Jewish sober living community for men and women recovering from addiction — 6 homes in Rockland County built around one core belief: Love works. Sony Perlman has spent over 25 years saving lives, and everything at The Village flows from a single insight: when people in recovery are truly loved, they learn to love themselves. That's when healing happens.  The result? A 350% higher success rate than the accepted standard — lasting sobriety, steady employment, and lives rebuilt from the ground up. 80% of people who become addicted relapse again and again. The Village exists to stop that cycle. Where Have I Been?

Send us Fan Mail I've been gone. Here's why. In this episode, Sony pulls back the curtain on where he's been, and it's not what you'd expect.  He's been all in. Completely, unapologetically, full-force all in on something he believes and what might be one of the most important things he's ever been part of. That something is The Village, a Jewish recovery focused residential program built on the belief that people can heal, that community matters, and that love works. Sony talks honestly about the journey, how he got there, what drew him in, what he's seen, and why he couldn't stay on the sidelines. This one is raw, personal, and from the heart. Brainstorm is back. And Sony has a lot to say. If this episode moved you and you want to help Sony grow The Village, whether through a connection, a conversation, a resource, or just showing up, he wants to hear from you. Directly.
