    Ep. 168 — Conversations With an Atheist: Burden of Proof (Unquestionable Calvin Smith)

    What happens when an atheist and a past life regressionist sit down to discuss religion, astrology, and the nature of belief? And what happens when they begin questioning not just each other's beliefs, but the standards they use to determine what's true? Unquestionable Calvin Smith returns to Timeless Spirituality for another spirited, occasionally provocative, and often hilarious conversation with Daniel about faith, skepticism, morality, and the burden of proof. A former believer in Christianity and various conspiracy theories, Calvin explains how reading the Bible ultimately led him toward atheism. Today, he challenges religious beliefs publicly, encouraging people to examine the very texts upon which their convictions are based. The conversation begins with the Dead Sea Scrolls, the historical reliability of the Bible, and whether discrepancies between ancient manuscripts undermine claims of divine inspiration. Daniel and Calvin explore the distinction between a text containing historical information and that text being historically or spiritually authoritative. But things become considerably more heated when Calvin argues that religious texts should be banned. Daniel challenges him on the implications of that position, questioning whether suppressing religious literature risks reproducing the very intolerance Calvin condemns. Together, they examine the harm religion has caused throughout history, the good it may still provide, and whether morality, community, and compassion can survive without religious institutions. Then the conversation takes an entirely different turn: astrology.     One of Timeless Spirituality's most polarizing and requested guests returns. Flat Earth Dave (David Weiss) joins Daniel “The Past Life Regressionist” for another conversation about the shape of our world, the nature of reality, and the difference between believing something and knowing it. But this time, the conversation takes a different approach.     (SEASON PREMIERE) Ep. 165 — God, Reincarnation, the Bible, and the Nature of Time (ft. Austin Julio Broughton)

    What happens when two people with very different spiritual and political worldviews sit across from each other, ask difficult questions, and actually allow themselves to be affected by the answers? Daniel is joined by Austin Julio Broughton, co-host of Jubilee’s The Split, longtime public speaker, political commentator, debater, content creator, and outspoken Christian whom Daniel first discovered through Jubilee’s Surrounded series. Although the two don’t always fall on the same side politically or spiritually, Daniel was drawn to Austin’s willingness to challenge his own side, resist audience capture, and engage with people he disagrees with in good faith. Austin shares his journey from Christianity to atheism and eventually back to Christianity, explaining why he believes the historical case for Jesus, the Shroud of Turin, philosophy, and his understanding of science give him reason not only to believe in God, but to say that he knows God exists. That distinction immediately catches Daniel’s attention. What does it mean to believe something versus know it? How much evidence is enough before belief becomes knowledge? And at what point does the search for certainty require something evidence alone may never provide: faith? But the questioning doesn’t only go in one direction. Austin challenges Daniel’s belief in reincarnation and raises a question about karma: if someone is born into a completely different body without conscious memories of a previous life, why should that person experience consequences for something another version of them supposedly did? Rather than trying to prove reincarnation, Daniel asks Austin to consider a different framework altogether. What if consciousness isn’t as individual as we assume? What if time isn’t linear? What if our lives aren’t simply occurring one after another, but are somehow part of a much larger picture that neither of them can fully see? And when Austin describes faith as surrendering to God’s plan rather than our own, Daniel pushes back again: Why does it have to be one or the other? Can divine foreknowledge and human free will exist at the same time? As the conversation unfolds, both men find themselves refining the way they explain what they believe. They explore Genesis, evolution, suffering, free will, God’s foreknowledge, biblical history, the preservation of scripture, reincarnation, and the nature of time. But underneath all of it is something more personal: two people testing their convictions without treating disagreement as something that has to produce a winner. And by the end, both appear to leave with something they didn’t have when they walked into the room. Austin offers a perspective on the Bible and the preservation of its message that Daniel had never seriously considered before. It doesn’t give Daniel all the answers or erase his questions. But it affects him deeply enough to change the way he thinks about his own faith. At the same time, Daniel introduces Austin to ways of thinking about reincarnation, consciousness, time, and even the relationship between God’s plan and human choice that push the conversation beyond simple either-or answers. Neither converts the other. Neither needs to. Because maybe expanding faith isn’t about abandoning what you believe. Maybe it’s about allowing someone who sees the world differently to show you a part of it you hadn’t considered before.     (SEASON FINALE) Ep. 164 — The Mirror of Time XI: Becoming (Solo)

    Five years ago, Timeless Spirituality began with an episode called “The Mirror of Time.” In it, Daniel described the podcast as something that would inevitably become a reflection of his own growth. A place to explore belief without confusing it for fact, to learn through conversations with others, to recognize his own blind spots, and to become more comfortable admitting when he simply didn’t know. Five years later, the mirror is still reflecting. In the Season 5 finale, Daniel looks backward in order to figure out where the show goes next. The episode combines three different moments in the life of Timeless Spirituality: a new and unusually candid reflection from Daniel at 40, the original series premiere recorded at 35, and a conversation from a year ago about his desire to fundamentally change the direction of the podcast. What emerges is a conversation across time between different versions of the same person. Daniel reflects on a recent interview that forced him to question the line between challenging someone’s beliefs and using the power of the microphone irresponsibly. After entering the conversation determined to make his guest defend what he believed, Daniel walked away realizing that somewhere along the way, challenging ideas had begun to feel a little too good. The episode will never be released, but what it revealed to him may help shape everything that comes next. That realization forces Daniel to confront some uncomfortable questions of his own. Can you challenge people without trying to defeat them? When does intellectual curiosity become ego? What responsibility comes with having a platform?     Ep. 163 — The Ancestors We Carry (ft. Stacy Carlson)

    What does it mean to reconnect with a part of your identity that has always been yours, but that you never quite felt entitled to claim? Stacy Carlson returns to Timeless Spirituality to share her journey of reconnecting with her Indigenous heritage. Although Stacy is both Hoopa and Hopi, she grew up wrestling with the feeling that she didn't look Indigenous enough to fully belong. Over the last several years, relationships with family members, visits to the Hoopa Valley Reservation, and a deeper exploration of her ancestry have begun to change that. But that exploration has also forced Stacy to confront some painful history. She shares the unexpected encounter that led her to research Indian boarding schools, including the realization that her own great-grandmother had attended one. As a medium, Stacy also describes connecting with an ancestor who she believes experienced one of those schools and asked Stacy to tell her story.     Ep. 162 — The Expanse Method: It Can Be a Playground Too (ft. Jenny Sherman)

    Does spiritual growth always have to be heavy? Jenny Sherman returns to Timeless Spirituality to talk about her experience with The Expanse Method and, in the process, challenges one of Daniel’s own assumptions about the method he created. The conversation begins with Jenny describing herself as a “creative mystic” and exploring the relationship between creativity, spirituality, skepticism, and the mystery of where inspiration actually comes from. From there, Daniel and Jenny turn to past lives and a question they’ve both become increasingly comfortable leaving unanswered: What exactly are we experiencing during a regression? Jenny has experienced roughly 100 past-life stories through regressions over the years, but she doesn’t necessarily need them to be literal past lives for them to have meaning. They could be memories, archetypes, ancestral material, imagination, something moving through time and space, or something else entirely. For Jenny, the more important question is much simpler: Does the experience help? That perspective made her recent Expanse Method session noticeably different. Without the pressure of having to determine whether something was a “past life,” Jenny found herself approaching the experience with more freedom, curiosity, and playfulness. That catches Daniel somewhat off guard. The Expanse Method was partly created to move away from what Daniel and Jenny jokingly call the “spiritual ick,” or the temptation to leave a profound spiritual experience focused only on the euphoric glow while avoiding the uncomfortable work underneath it. But Jenny’s session raises another possibility: maybe transformation doesn’t always have to hurt. Sometimes the Expanse can be heavy. Sometimes it can confront you with the parts of yourself you would rather avoid. And sometimes, it can be a playground too. Along the way, Daniel reflects on the euphoric “past life regression glow” that followed his own first session, how it contributed to a period of spiritual bypassing, and why he now believes the goal may not be choosing between the “ahh” and the “ugh,” but learning to hold both.
