Classic Radio Theater features great radio programs that warmed the hearts of millions for the better part of the 20th century. Host Wyatt Cox brings the best of radio classics back to life with both the passion of a long-time (as in more than half a century) fan and the heart of a forty-year newsman. But more than just “playing the hits”, Wyatt supplements the first hour of each day’s show with historical information on the day and date in history, including audio that takes you back to World War II, Korea, and Vietnam. FDR, Eisenhower, JFK, Reagan, Carter, Nixon, LBJ. It’s a true slice of life from not just radio’s past, but America’s past. Wyatt produces 21 hours a week of freshly minted Classic Radio Theater presentations each week, and each day’s broadcast is timely and entertaining!

The author of murder mysteries plays an important part in the case.  Followed by Nick Carter Master Detective starring Lon Clark, originally broadcast August 15, 1948, 78 years ago, The Case of the Professional Beggar. A young boy's life is at stake when he's the witness to a machine-gun murder.  Then, Suspense, originally broadcast August 15, 1956, 70 years ago, A Friend to Alexander starring John Dehner.  The James Thurber story of a very personal reaction to the Hamilton-Burr duel.  Followed by Rocky Jordan starring George Raft, originally broadcast August 15, 1951, 75 years ago,  The Man in the Nile. The price of wisdom is above gold. Sometimes you can know too much; then the price is lead...out of a .38. Finally, Lum and Abner, originally broadcast August 15, 1935, 91 years ago, Inspecting the Rolling Store.  Caleb Weehunt has finally finished the store on wheels, but now how to get it out of the blacksmith shop? Then some of the sounds of this date 81 years ago, August 14, 1945, beginning with a Gabriel Heatter commentary the evening before the announcement, then excerpts of various broadcasts around the country, HV Kaltenborn with commentary on the end of the war, and the Fred Waring Show with a live shortwave report from special commentator Jack Benny in Paris!  We also bring you the Norman Corwin classic Fourteen August, A Message For The Day Of Victory, written on a fast deadline, and performed by Orson Welles  Followed by Mystery in the Air starring Peter Lorre, originally broadcast August 14, 1947, 79 years ago, The Lodger.  A good adaptation of the classic Jack the Ripper story.     Classic Radio 08-13-26 - Diamond Smuggler, Alien Smuggling, and the Fearless Clown

    Crime on a Thursday First, a look at the events of the day. Then, Boston Blackie starring Dick Kollmar, originally broadcast  August 13, 1946, 80 years ago, The Diamond Smuggler.  Momma and Poppa Adams are in reality diamond smugglers and perhaps poisoners. Followed by Dangerous Assignment starring Brian Donlevy, originally broadcast August 13, 1949, 77 years ago, Alien Smuggling Ring. Steve's friend and fellow agent Allen Prescott is found hanging in a bell tower in a Portuguese fishing village. Steve is out to break up an alien smuggling racket.  Then, Let George Do It starring Bob Bailey, originally broadcast August 13, 1951, 75 years ago, The Fearless Clown.   Fofo, The Fearless Clown, has been killed by an elephant. However, the beautiful Relita (the girl, not the elephant) has confessed to the crime...before it happened! Followed by Calling All Cars, originally broadcast August 13, 1936, 90 years ago,  The Missing Messenger.  A suspicious person has been spotted near Pasadena Avenue and Avenue Forty-Two. An ideal officer solves a brutal crime. Finally, Claudia, originally broadcast August 13, 1948, 78 years ago,  Lotte from the Bronx Recognizes the Farmer's Wife Within Claudia.  Kathryn Bard and Paul Crabtree star.
