On behalf of at least one highly educated woman with actual expertise (ie PhD from top University with add’l post doc training, and practicing research on prejudice and stereotypes) the guest with the crappy 1 star rating does not represent me whatsoever! And yes, you can call me Dr. (thanks Dr Biden!)!
Making a comment suggesting those compelled to question the credibility of the defense is knee jerk misogyny is insulting to all of us with a brain. At the most basic level, a reliable, clear case made by a strong legal team, facing an opposition whose contribution is mostly limited to realityTV entertainment consisting of stringing together innumerable cringe-worthy moments, isn’t fair play for evaluating our competence or understanding of individual or institutional bias against women. It also does a disservice to the hard work many in the legal profession have done to start correcting past wrongs and reconfiguring an entire System to remove centuries and more of pervasive bias (that arguably is impossible to fully remove!).
Heard is the worst example of the science in terms of how irrational and ill-informed misogynists truly are. Whether her claims have any truth buried under her own X-large tea cup dog sized mound of poop, she is doing so much damage to all of the progress we are finally making after decades of sweeping failures of ERA movements being hidden away- across many systems! It strikes me that she has little idea of just how much her “Op-Ed” approach with no expert input or involvement, could derail, stop, or even reverse the strides we have been dedicating our lives too. Even beyond the legal and justice systems, we see this playing out in mental health, treatment stigmas, down to perpetuating daily stereotypes around stepfamilies, lgbtq+ communities, and in her own words she has berated women for not fighting back or walking away which is so rooted in the privilege she enjoys that other communities cannot afford to act on at all.
Until 2016, I naively felt we were making strides only finding the hate, prejudice and sexism riding high on stealth mode all along. This crumbled but thanks to the steadfast progress of Tarana Burke, Kimberle Crenshaw, and countless others, we were able to continue building off of a remarkable foundation as so many more found their voices.
Keep up good work podcasters, we appreciate the time and effort. Best offense is to always include guests with expertise both from personal experiences and reputable credentials in the sciences and arts offering helpful resources and source material so everyone has access to the same level of educational content (imho). Best of luck!
