Fred, Art, birthday girl Laura, and Mark contemplate whether 3.5-point underdog USC has a chance against Oregon at the Coliseum on Saturday night. Can Lincoln Riley finally outduel Dan Lanning? The Raiders, 2-0 with Kirk Cousins, host the Saints in a possible trap game. What happens to rookie Fernando Mendoza if he sits all year? Is Puka Nacua's absence only an injury as the Rams visit the Broncos, or has he been quietly suspended? Will Tennessee’s rowdy Neyland Stadium shock Arch Manning's Texas in front of the President? And could Pittsburgh's first winning season in eight years build into more?

    A Kiffin Showdown, Southern Style

Fred, Art and Laura are gearing up for a weekend of exciting football as LSU hosts Ole Miss, with Trinidad Chambliss leading the Rebels. Can Lane Kiffin's squad overcome injuries and Kiffin’s own family dilemma? UCLA chases a 3-0 start against Purdue as program momentum continues under Bob Chesney. Is the Bruins rebuild sustainable? Will heavily favored USC have an easy win over Rutgers? Do great NFL coordinators always make great head coaches, or did Aaron Glenn's Jets' defensive struggle against the Lions prove the opposite? And can Justin Herbert bounce back when the Raiders host the Chargers at SoFi?

Can Arch Manning finally deliver at home as Ohio State visits Texas on Saturday? What happened with Bryce Underwood, resulting in that bizarre ending to the Michigan game and the seemingly incongruous celebration afterwards? Fred, Art, Laura and Mark examine the ongoing turmoil running through both basketball leagues. Will Victor Wembanyama's health carry the NBA forward? What does losing five draft picks mean for the Clippers? Are USC fans going to brave the heat for football’s opening weekend? Can UCLA handle Cal's hype? As the 49ers and Rams head to Australia, will jet lag be the deciding factor in the Antipodean showdown? And is Paul Skenes contemplating Anaheim?

Is There a Cloud Over the Dodger Clubhouse?

Fred, Art, Laura, and Mark are astonished that the mighty Dodgers have dropped three games in a row. Has this team lost the speed that once defined championship Dodgers baseball? Is the ownership turmoil surrounding Mark Walter rattling the clubhouse, or is a shorthanded bullpen missing injured catcher Will Smith the real culprit? How much longer can UCLA justify Mick Cronin's extension after frustrating portal losses and empty seats? Can new football coach Bob Chesney turn the Bruins around? And will USC’s revamped defense under Gary Patterson and Lincoln Riley's offense be enough to survive Ohio State, Indiana and Penn State?

In light of Jeanie Buss's refusal to sell her stake in the team, can the family settle quietly amid conflicting trust agreements and court orders? Could a Nikola Jokić trade rumor be a convenient distraction? Does star power buy Rams receiver Puka Nacua a pass on suspension despite a biting incident and controversial comments? Is NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell’s $75 million paycheck justifiable when he’s holding elite players to a different standard? And can insider knowledge make sports betting even more difficult to police?

Lakers’ Sale Shakes Up the NBA

Fred, Art, and Laura are stunned by Mark Walter’s sale of the Lakers to a group led by Bob Iger and Josh Kushner for $12.5 billion. Does that ten-month valuation jump seem too good to be true? Will Adam Silver's approval be more than a formality? Could the impressive preseason action of Raiders rookie Fernando Mendoza push Kirk Cousins to the sidelines sooner than expected? Should the NFL reward 50-plus-yard field goals with four points, or rein in kickers instead? And in light of Roger Craig's dementia diagnosis and Puka Nacua's suspension, how much accountability is enough?

Dodgers’ TV Riches vs Angels’ Fire Sale

Fred, Art, Laura, and Mark are impressed that the Dodgers reportedly haul in $355 million a year just from local TV — nearly covering their entire payroll. Is that kind of financial edge fair to smaller-market rivals? Should Mike Trout finally get traded out of Anaheim to jump-start a rebuild with the Angels' farm system? Can the injury-riddled Yankees catch a Red Sox team that's won 26 of 29 games? Are Jahmyr Gibbs and Saquon Barkley proof running backs deserve bigger paydays, or is the position fading for good? And can Buster Posey's front office turn things around in San Francisco?
