The Sanity Damage podcast is a series of TTRPG campaigns set in a multiverse cooked up by Nathan Heard and his peers. Sanity Damage's first campaign, To Whom the Sea Belongs, follows the story of an unlikely team of motley scalawags and genteel nobles as they stumble into a mind-bending conspiracy that reaches far beyond their mortal world. In this campaign, the party wrestles with the moderate good and considerable evil that arises from colonialism, and they experience the vast and diverse oceanic cultures of the homebrew world of Nera’ohan. Each player talks a bit about themselves, and then they introduce their characters, superficial backstories, and the magic item that they start the campaign with. The players then collaborate to figure out how they have heard of one another or if any of them have met prior to the events of the campaign.

    Each of the party members arrive in Westport, a small colony on the island of Penjarhao, independently of one another. The party slowly begins to coalesce as the PCs meet one another in a variety of circumstances, including a tavern brawl, a tea tasting, and a riveting conversation with an eccentric gnomish potato merchant!

    A threat to the town causes the PCs to rally together and form an adventuring party. At the mayor’s behest, the party agrees to investigate this danger and see if it poses a long-term threat to the town. Over dinner and pipeweed, the party discusses their immediate goals and determines whether or not they would benefit from traveling with each other.

    Following the trail of the abomination that they fought previously, the party heads into the wild and dangerous jungles of Penjarhao, facing new challenges, reconnecting with some unlikely friends, and making some new acquaintances along the way.

    Picking up right where last week’s episode ended, the party fights a horrific and unnatural foe. Following the fight, they meet a depressed nature spirit and learn more of what has been going on in the jungle. When they camp for the night, Jack has a strange dream.

    As the party approaches Kraz’s lair, they are confronted by increasingly dangerous obstacles that seem to have been created by Kraz himself. When they finally reach a cave complex that Gailie confirms is his lair, they steel themselves for a difficult fight.

    The party enters Kraz’s lair, but quickly split up as Zachariah gets lost deep in the lair while the rest of the party continues to explore the outer caves. Both Zachariah and the rest of the party battle horrors, find treasure, and make unexpected discoveries.

    Zachariah reunites with the rest of the party in a shocking fashion as secrets come to light. When the party delves deeper into Kraz’s lair, their secrets are laid bare, causing tensions to flare hot between the party members.
