Health Care Is Personal: Darryl Block's Run for Florida House 36

Darryl Block and his wife Melanie lost their health insurance while their son was in the ICU, and then they lost him. Now Darryl, a Democrat, is running for Florida House District 36 in Seminole County so that no Florida family goes bankrupt just trying to take care of their own. He joins Lee Perry on Organizing the Victory to share his story. Darryl is an attorney, certified mediator, social worker, and youth sports coach, and a Babe Ruth baseball dad of four. He talks about why he first ran in 2018, how health insurance and regular checkups caught his own heart condition and saved his life, and what he's hearing at the doors: school closures, rising utility bills, property insurance, overdevelopment, and affordability. He also covers protecting Seminole County's rural boundary, defending local control from state preemption, funding public education, and strengthening unions. In this episode: The family tragedy behind Darryl's run, and why health care is personal for himHow health insurance saved his own lifeWhy Tallahassee runs like a middle school, and how mediation skills helpPublic education, teacher pay, and school closuresUtility bills, property insurance, and affordability in Seminole CountyData centers and Flock camerasLocal control, home rule, and state preemptionWhy Darryl urges voters to read Amendment 3 closely and ask "who is this for?"Reaching independent and Republican voters, and why low turnout is a messaging problemBreaking the GOP supermajority Election Day is November 3. 🔗 LINKS Darryl's campaign: https://www.blockfor36.com or https://www.darrylblock.com/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/DarrylBlockFL Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/blockfor36/
