  1. Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Safety Clothing Made by Women For Women

    10/05/2023

Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, & Safety Clothing Made by Women For Women

In the first segment of this episode, Stacey is joined by Jordan Geibig, the Safety Manager for M.C. Dean Inc., a company that builds cyber-physical solutions for mission-critical facilities and global enterprises.  Stacey and Jordan chat about what it’s like working as a woman in construction, and the importance of diversity, equity, and inclusion. Jordan discusses what it was like being discriminated against — for being a woman on a construction site — and then having her employer step up and support her rather than just ignoring the problem.  In the second segment of this episode, Stacey is joined by Melanie Adams, who started a company, Embher (pronounced “ember”), that created the first female-only brand of flame-resistant clothing. Stacey and Melanie’s conversation touches upon how for too long clothes designed for workers in various industries (e.g. the oil industry) were solely designed to fit a man’s body.  Thanks to both Jordan and Melanie for being on our podcast!  Sospes was built to allow employees to connect in safer, more productive workplaces. Filling Leadership Gaps in Safety, with Peter Susca of OpX Safety

In this episode, Stacey is joined by Peter Susca of Operational Excellence LLC (aka OpX Safety).  Stacey and Peter discuss:  * Safety leadership gaps.  * How safety professionals can focus on changing not only how people think about safety, but also how they make decisions.  * Peter’s upcoming book, Beyond Safety. * How safety decisions can be thought of as occurring at three levels. Level 1: the enterprise or business unit level. Level 2: the plant level. And level 3: the worker himself/herself.  Thanks to Peter for being on our podcast!  Check out Operational Excellence LLC (aka OpX Safety): https://www.opxsafety.com/  Connect with Peter on LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/peter-t-susca-4824432/  Sospes was built to allow employees to connect in safer, more productive workplaces. 3. How Do We Keep People Safe, Yet Not Ruin Their Fun At Work?

    09/14/2023

How Do We Keep People Safe, Yet Not Ruin Their Fun At Work?

In the first segment of this episode, Stacey is joined by Trish Ennis, who has worked in the safety profession for over 30 years. Trish is the kind of person who is continuously using her knowledge and skills to advance occupational health and safety. In this chat, Trish talks about working for an aquarium and a zoo.  Trish also gets real when she explores what it’s like being confronted with workers who think that she — the new safety director — is going to suck out all of the joy of their jobs. Listen to this chat to learn Trish’s answer to the question: How do we keep people safe in a way that doesn't cause them to lose passion for their jobs?    Connect with Trish Ennis: https://www.linkedin.com/in/trishenniscsp/  In the second segment of this episode, Stacey talks with Daniel Klinger, president of MTAC Industrial Solutions. By the way, the name of Daniel’s company, MTAC, stands for More Than A Carpenter Services, which is a pretty cool acronym.  In this chat, Stachey and Daniel discuss pallet rack collapse prevention. Any time a pallet rack is damaged, there’s the risk it might cause a catastrophic collapse. Listen to this segment for Daniel’s insights into encouraging forklift drivers and other workers to be aware of the risks of breaking and falling pallets, and how to appropriate action to prevent people getting in harm’s way.  Learn more about Daniel Klinger: https://www.mtacis.com/about/  Thanks to our guests for being on our podcast!  Sospes was built to allow employees to connect in safer, more productive workplaces. Navigating Heights: Ensuring Workplace Safety in High-Risk Scenarios

In this episode, Stacey is joined by Drew Hinton, CEO and Founder of Arrow Safety, and a seasoned safety and medical professional with 15 years of experience in occupational health and safety.  Stacey and Drew discuss:  * Height rescue plans. For instance, what would you do if someone was working high up, fell, and was hanging from their harness? How could you help them get down safely to the ground?  * The pros and cons of using safety dummies — similar to crash test dummies — to practice difficult safety maneuvers.  Thanks to Drew for being on our podcast!  To connect with Drew and Arrow Safety: * LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/drew-hinton/  * Website: https://arrowsafetyus.com  Sospes was built to allow employees to connect in safer, more productive workplaces.
