    Episode 220: Burnt Offerings (1976)

This week, Josh and Drusilla watched the very cozy Burnt Offerings. From wiki: “Burnt Offerings (Italian: Ballata macabra, lit. 'Macabre ballad') is a 1976 supernatural horror film co-written and directed by Dan Curtis and starring Karen Black, Oliver Reed, Bette Davis, and Lee H. Montgomery, with Eileen Heckart, Burgess Meredith and Anthony James in supporting roles. It is based on the 1973 novel by Robert Marasco.[7] The plot follows a family which begins to interpersonally dissolve under supernatural forces in a large estate they have rented for the summer. The film's title derives from the Book of Leviticus, referring to a "sacrifice by fire" and a "gift offered to God."[8] Also discussed: Marilyn Monroe’s 100th Birthday, The Silver Book: A Novel by Olivia Laing,  Backrooms (2026), I Love Boosters (2026), Watcher in the Woods (1980), Return from Witch Mountain (1978), Girls Just Wanna Fun (1985), The Midnight Hour (1984), Dark Shadows, Trilogy of Terror, Day of the Locust, Ruben and Ed, Phantasm, The Sentinel, The Legacy, Alliosn’s Birthday, and more.  NEXT WEEK: Dracula’s Daughter (1936) Bloodhaus:  https://www.bloodhauspod.com/ https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/ https://letterboxd.com/bloodhaus/ Drusilla Adeline: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/ https://letterboxd.com/sisterhyde/ https://www.instagram.com/sister__hyde/ Joshua Conkel https://www.joshuaconkel.com/ https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/ https://letterboxd.com/JoshuaConkel/

Episode 213: The Blair Witch Project (1999) (w/special guest Alexandra Heller-Nicholas)

This week, Josh and Drusilla are excited to be joined by film critic and documentarian, Alexandra Heller-Nicholas. Alexandra has written the book on film footage (literally) and thus brings the show the big mama jama of the sub genre: The Blair Witch Project. From wiki: “The Blair Witch Project is a 1999 American found footage psychological folk horror film written, directed, and edited by Daniel Myrick and Eduardo Sánchez. One of the most successful independent films of all time, it is a "found footage" pseudo-documentary in which three young students (Heather Donahue, Michael C. Williams, and Joshua Leonard) hike into the Appalachian Mountains near Burkittsville, Maryland, to shoot a documentary about a local myth known as the Blair Witch.” Also discussed: Iron Lung, 1000 Women in Horror, Terrifier, The Drama, Marble Hornets, Eddington, The Slap, Force Majeur, The Bad Seed, Night of the Living Dead, Hellier, and more.  NEXT WEEK: Salo or The 100 Days of Sodom Alexandra Heller-Nicholas: https://horrornonna.com/ https://www.instagram.com/horrornonna/ Bloodhaus:  https://www.bloodhauspod.com/ https://www.instagram.com/bloodhauspod/ https://letterboxd.com/bloodhaus/ Drusilla Adeline: https://www.sisterhydedesign.com/ https://letterboxd.com/sisterhyde/ https://www.instagram.com/sister__hyde/ Joshua Conkel https://www.joshuaconkel.com/ https://www.instagram.com/joshua_conkel/ https://letterboxd.com/JoshuaConkel/
