    Elders Caring For The Flock Of God

    This Week’s Sermon: 1 Peter 5:1-5 In this passage, Peter exhorts church elders to faithfully shepherd God’s flock with willing, eager hearts—not out of obligation, greed, or a desire for control, but as humble examples to those they lead. Their leadership is to reflect the character of Christ, the Chief Shepherd, who will one day reward faithful service with an unfading crown of glory. At the same time, younger believers are called to submit to godly leadership. Ultimately, the entire church is urged to clothe itself in humility toward one another, remembering that God opposes the proud but gives grace to the humble.

    Suffering According To The Will Of God

    12 Beloved, do not be surprised at the fiery trial when it comes upon you to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. 13 But rejoice insofar as you share Christ’s sufferings, that you may also rejoice and be glad when his glory is revealed. 14 If you are insulted for the name of Christ, you are blessed, because the Spirit of glory and of God rests upon you. 15 But let none of you suffer as a murderer or a thief or an evildoer or as a meddler. 16 Yet if anyone suffers as a Christian, let him not be ashamed, but let him glorify God in that name. 17 For it is time for judgment to begin at the household of God; and if it begins with us, what will be the outcome for those who do not obey the gospel of God? 18 And “If the righteous is scarcely saved, what will become of the ungodly and the sinner?” 19 Therefore let those who suffer according to God’s will entrust their souls to a faithful Creator while doing good.

    Thinking And Living Like Jesus

    The Passage - 1 Peter 4:1-11 Since therefore Christ suffered in the flesh, arm yourselves with the same way of thinking, for whoever has suffered in the flesh has ceased from sin, 2 so as to live for the rest of the time in the flesh no longer for human passions but for the will of God. 3 For the time that is past suffices for doing what the Gentiles want to do, living in sensuality, passions, drunkenness, orgies, drinking parties, and lawless idolatry. 4 With respect to this they are surprised when you do not join them in the same flood of debauchery, and they malign you; 5 but they will give account to him who is ready to judge the living and the dead. 6 For this is why the gospel was preached even to those who are dead, that though judged in the flesh the way people are, they might live in the spirit the way God does. 7 The end of all things is at hand; therefore be self-controlled and sober-minded for the sake of your prayers. 8 Above all, keep loving one another earnestly, since love covers a multitude of sins. 9 Show hospitality to one another without grumbling. 10 As each has received a gift, use it to serve one another, as good stewards of God’s varied grace: 11 whoever speaks, as one who speaks oracles of God; whoever serves, as one who serves by the strength that God supplies—in order that in everything God may be glorified through Jesus Christ. To him belong glory and dominion forever and ever. Amen.

    The Hope of Victory in Jesus

    This passage points us to the heart of the gospel: Christ suffered once for sins, the righteous for the unrighteous, in order to bring us to God. Though He was put to death in the flesh, He was made alive in the Spirit and now reigns in victory. Peter connects Christ’s saving work to the story of Noah, showing how God delivers His people through judgment by His grace. Baptism, then, is not a mere outward act, but a response of faith—an appeal to God for a clean conscience through the resurrection of Jesus Christ, who now rules over all powers and authorities.

    Reason For The Hope Within Us

    This passage reminds believers that while doing good rarely brings harm, suffering for righteousness may still come—and when it does, it is a blessing. Rather than responding with fear or anxiety, we are called to honor Christ as Lord in our hearts. We should always be ready to explain the hope we have in Him, doing so with gentleness and respect. By maintaining a clear conscience and Christlike conduct, even false accusations ultimately expose the emptiness of those who oppose the gospel.

    Suffering for Righteousness’ Sake The Passage – 1 Peter 3:8-12 8 Finally, all of you, have unity of mind, sympathy, brotherly love, a tender heart, and a humble mind. 9 Do not repay evil for evil or reviling for reviling, but on the contrary, bless, for to this you were called, that you may obtain a blessing. 10 For “Whoever desires to love life and see good days, let him keep his tongue from evil and his lips from speaking deceit; 11 let him turn away from evil and do good; let him seek peace and pursue it. 12 For the eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayer. But the face of the Lord is against those who do evil.”

    Honoring God in Marriage

    1 Peter 3:1-7 calls husbands and wives to reflect the gospel through humility, honor, and faithfulness in marriage. Wives are encouraged to display Christlike character through respectful and pure conduct, trusting God to work through a gentle and steadfast faith. True beauty, Scripture reminds us, is not found in outward appearance but in a heart shaped by hope in God. Husbands are likewise called to live with understanding and honor toward their wives, recognizing them as equal heirs of God’s grace. Together, marriage becomes a powerful witness to God’s design and purposes.

    Living as Sojourners in a Hostile World

    This passage calls believers to live as sojourners and exiles, resisting sinful desires and pursuing honorable lives that point others to God. We are instructed to submit to earthly authorities and live in such a way that our good deeds silence false accusations and bring glory to God. Even in unjust suffering, we are reminded that doing good with endurance is pleasing to the Lord. Christ Himself is our example, as He suffered without sin, entrusted Himself to God, and bore our sins on the cross. Through His wounds we are healed, and as once-wandering sheep, we have now returned to Jesus, the Shepherd and Overseer of our souls.
