I Cannot Come Down | Pastor Jonathan Mast | Nehemiah 6:1-19

What do you do when distractions, criticism, and fear threaten to pull you away from what God has called you to do? In Nehemiah 6, the walls of Jerusalem are nearly finished, but the opposition intensifies. Nehemiah’s enemies attempt to distract him, spread rumors about him, and manipulate him through fear. Yet Nehemiah refuses to abandon the work. His example reminds us that following God requires focus, discernment, courage, and trust. We don't have to respond to every rumor, give in to every fear, or get pulled into every distraction. We can remain faithful to the work God has placed before us. In this message, we discover five ways to respond when opposition threatens to distract us: Remain Focused on the Great Work — Don't allow distractions to pull you away from God's calling. Rest in What Is True — Don't confuse rumors and repeated claims with the truth. Revere God More Than You Fear Man — Stand firm in obedience, even when others pressure you to compromise. Remember That God Keeps the Record — Trust God with injustice rather than taking revenge into your own hands. Recognize Who Does the Work — Give God the glory for what He accomplishes through you. The message ultimately points us to Jesus. When He was mocked on the cross and told to come down, He remained and finished the work of our salvation. Jesus did not abandon His mission—and because of His finished work, we can walk faithfully in the good works God has prepared for us.

Building Together | Pastor Jonathan Mast | Nehemiah 3

God's work was never meant to be a one-person job. Nehemiah 3 contains a long list of names and sections of Jerusalem's wall being rebuilt. At first glance, it may seem like a chapter to skim—but every name tells a story of someone who stepped up and played their part. From priests and leaders to goldsmiths, perfumers, families, and ordinary workers, people from all different backgrounds joined together to rebuild the wall. In this message, we discover three principles for Building Together: 🔨 Start With Why — The people consecrated their work to God. The ultimate purpose of everything we do is to bring glory to Him. 📋 Follow a Plan — Nehemiah organized people around specific sections of the wall and gave them a clear place to serve. 🤝 Work as a Team — The wall was rebuilt because many different people worked together. The same is true of the church. God has given each person gifts and a place to contribute to the work of His Kingdom. Paul reminds us that “to each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good.” (1 Corinthians 12:7) You may not be able to do everything—but you can do your part. And ultimately, the Sheep Gate at the beginning and end of Nehemiah 3 points us toward Jesus, the Lamb of God. Nehemiah's wall had a gate that kept the enemy out; Jesus opened the door so sinners could come in. Through faith in Christ, we become part of His body and join together in His work.
