    Chad Wolf is... Carolina Liar!

What happens when a working-class Southern storyteller packs his bags for Los Angeles, lands in Stockholm, and accidentally creates an indie-pop masterpiece with production royalty? On Episode 102 of Derringer Discoveries, Carolina Liar frontman Chad Wolf sits down with Alton, Paul, and Rob to pull back the curtain on his wild rise to fame! From growing up in Charleston, South Carolina, to paying his dues as a working musician in Los Angeles, Chad traces his journey all the way to catching the ear of Swedish hitmaking titans Tobias Karlsson and Max Martin and reveals the incredible origin story behind their Platinum-selling 2008 debut album, Coming to Terms. Along the way, he reveals how an early music producer dubbed him a "liar" after hearing his wild stories. That South Carolina charm and knack for outrageous-yet-true tales didn't just stick, it gave birth to one of the most iconic band names of the 2000s alt-rock era. Whether you lived through Carolina Liar dominating the 2008 airwaves or you're falling in love with their massive anthemic hooks today, consider this your VIP backstage pass. Freedom Quest, A Love Story ft. Debora Masterson (EP 101)

TWO KILOS OF POT A rising nine-piece rock band from San Diego, California, Freedom Quest seemed destined for success in 1973 --until their promising future was derailed by one of their own roadies, who was working undercover for the DEA. LEADER OF THE PACK The band's leader, Craig Ingraham, served six weeks at a federal prison farm camp. By the time he was released, the band had dissolved, and his girlfriend and fellow band member Debora Masterson ended their relationship, sending Craig spiraling on a years-long journey that led him to join a cult in Hawaii. A CULT IN HAWAII AND DEATH IN THAILAND After escaping the cult, Craig returned to California to rebuild his life. In a remarkable twist, the cult's leader was gunned down in Thailand by a scorned lover. TRUE LOVE REUNITES Years later, Craig was reunited with Debora, who, in 2026, wrote and published a gripping book about Freedom Quest, the cult, and the enduring love story she shared with Craig. A MUSIC ADVENTURE Debora joins Team Derringer - Laura, Alton, Rob, and Paul - for this fascinating episode to discuss these extraordinary events. Along the way, you'll also discover Freedom Quest's connections to Vince Guaraldi, Three Dog Night, The Righteous Brothers, Christopher Cross, and the Vietnam War through the documented story of one of Craig's close friends who lost his life in the conflict. Goose vs. Geese | The Battle of the Waterfowl! (EP96)

Goose vs. Geese | The Battle of the Waterfowl! In this episode of Derringer Discoveries, we are officially “winging it” as we dive into the avian-obsessed world of rock and roll. Join Paul, Laura, Alton, and our newly minted co-host, Rob Derringer, as we settle a debate over two of the most talked-about bands in the current scene: Connecticut’s jam-band kings, Goose, and Brooklyn’s post-punk provocateurs, Geese. In This Episode, We Discuss: The "Apex Predators" of Bird Bands: We look at the industry’s obsession with our feathered friends, from The Eagles and The Black Crowes to The Yardbirds, The Byrds, and Wings. We break down two very different modern rock stories: Geese, the Brooklyn post‑punk critical darlings who exploded after an SNL appearance and now boast millions of monthly listeners; and Goose, the Connecticut‑born jam‑band phenomenon whose marathon live shows and festival breakout turned them into a touring powerhouse. Geese – The Post-Punk Anarchists: How a group of friends from Stuyvesant High School went from a basement studio called “The Nest” to a bidding war over their demos. The fallout from their polarizing Saturday Night Live performance that split the internet between "rock saviors" and "derivative impostors". Their meteoric rise to over 2 million monthly listeners and critical acclaim for albums like 3D Country and Getting Killed. Goose – The Indie-Groove Torchbearers: The band’s "Big Bang" moment at the 2019 Peach Music Festival that transformed them into a national sensation overnight. Why they are considered the new leaders of the jam-band scene, blending the spirit of the Grateful Dead and Phish with a Vampire Weekend sensibility. Their impressive resume of sold-out shows at Madison Square Garden and Red Rocks.  The Final Vote The team steps off the fence to choose their winner in the Battle of the Waterfowl. Who takes the crown: the singular Goose or the plural Geese? Connect with Derringer Discoveries We want to hear from you! Is "jam band" a badge of honor or a warning label?
