Blog : This ABC Life | ABC養成記 下面是我們這集提到的一些觀點: 節目上有提到的 文化冰山 High-Context vs. Low-Context Communication高語境 (隱含) vs. 低語境 (明確) 的溝通模式 Christie explains high-context (implicit) vs. low-context (explicit) communication. Reference How do these patterns differ between first-gen parents and second-gen ABCs, and can they be reconciled? How to raise a Taiwanese American? The regret of losing heritage language

Please read this important note from podcast producer, Grace, about this episode before listening** 從台灣長大的製作人Grace,在美國養育台美下一代有很多想要探討的話題,這一集想要討論兩個主題: One of the main themes explored in this third season of the podcast is that of how to raise a Taiwanese American. In the context of that theme, this episode covers two topics: 1. Taiwanese Americans and generally Asian Americans often share their sentiment of regret at not knowing their heritage language. Many Asian American parents have opened up about how they relate to that feeling by sharing one (or both) of these two popular articles: “The Parents Trying to Pass Down a Language They Hardly Speak” “Forgetting My First Language”. 2. Recently, on an English bilingual Facebook group, a well-known bilingual influencer shared a blog post about not wanting to share more resources for learning Chinese. One of her stated reasons for not sharing is that she doesn’t want those resources going to Caucasian parents because she feels Caucasian parents have not gone through the pain that immigrants have suffered and they just want free resources to give their kids a leg up. Our guests on this episode share their thoughts on both these topics and suggest how parents raising children to be Taiwanese American might broach these sentiments. We'd love to hear from you!
