The Higher Calling is a podcast covering biblical principles and Christian ethics as preached in church services at the Avondale Church of God in Avondale, AZ. As the apostle Paul wrote in a letter to a young minister named Timothy: All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works. (The Holy Bible, KJV, 2Ti 3:16-17). The scriptures of the Old and New Testament, rather than popular cultural attitudes, or the ideas of some particular religious organization should be applied as a template for correct moral conduct addressing all areas of life. This podcast can compliment your religious activities but is not intended as a substitute for personal devotional exercises, or church attendance.

    New! Ep 38; Led forth to a desired haven; healing from anxiety

    God’s grace is sufficient in weakness when it pertains to something that is within our control or influence, and other things that are outside our personal responsibility are mostly distractions. If you can’t put thee, thou and thine in front of that concern, the grace for that concern is going to be minimal. And it’s a good clue that when the anxiety levels are rising, when there is a lack of sleep, when there is carefulness and trouble about many things like Martha experienced, those are the kind of cares that need to be cast on God. Easy to say, hard to do, but we’ll talk about it. Remember that the thing that you focus on, and pay attention to becomes something that your mind will try to solve, care about, and even your subconscious will place it in high importance. Physiologically, if it’s a very important problem, a crisis, or an emergency, then your sympathetic nervous system will be on alert for that thing… say goodbye to a full night’s sleep for a while!     Episode 37: Shards and Patches

    Welcome to Episode 37 titled Shards and Patches, a phrase pulled from John 8 where the concept is reinforced by imagery of an old garment being patched up and still attempted to be used, or an old bottle or wineskin that is not fit for service is put to use storing fresh new liquids. You cannot refinish new furniture over the top of chipped and damaged paint. It is necessary to strip and purge away the damage and remove it completely or it will eventually show up through the new finish. This episode explores recovery from destructive behaviors and habits and the necessary humbling down, confession, and spiritual transformation as well as new neural networks. It is necessary to learn how to take pleasure in holiness again.     Episode 36: The Voices of Experience

    In Episode 36 we discuss Romans 5: 1-5 and how experience works hope, which is never disappointed, rather always results in an outcome that helps us stay saved and draw closer to God. We learn that experience means to test, try, prove, and have practical application of experiment. We learn to run a clean experiment without contamination so that we can always have the positive results in our trials that are promised by the scriptures. We use a case study of Daniel and the three other Hebrew children that follow the law of Moses, and live it out in a visible way, and how that relates to our New Testament doctrines and standards that are built on top of those doctrines. By never taking a cheat day we can prove out what is that perfect and acceptable will of God.     What happens to the genetic code after spiritual transformation? When a person becomes a new creature through salvation, they become one with Christ, and one with the body of Christ. One Christian is representative of the general assembly of Christians, on a spiritual level, even with those Christians that have passed on to their final reward. The faith that is passed on from generation to generation is the family inheritance, and the fruits of the spirit are the proofs of a changed life.
