I first met these two friends through their “Alien in Character” show, and having enjoyed the format so much, I’ve followed them on through “The Thing in Character” to this “Blade Runner in Character” show. In the “JF Sebastian” episode, they delightfully digress into discussion about the shows’ format: that of “two friends talking in a pub.”
We don’t have proper pubs here in the States, but I do have fond memories of gathering with my own friends after viewing a movie to talk about it, often limited to what may have been written about it in Starlog Magazine (RIP, dear friend). In these internet days, there’s so much more background information to be found, and Eric takes info-maniacal advantage of that, enriching their discussion with facts, figures, and trivia.
Where some podcasts ramble on for over an hour, the structured entertainment and edification inherent in Eric’s shows how much time and effort that goes into them. No navel-gazing, stream-of-consciousness rabbit-chasing here! Instead, there’s a warmth and pleasantry that soothes the ear in these often troubled times.
Especially interesting are the varies “Tallies” Eric keeps on these characters, so you’ll not only come out of these shows with a better appreciation for the movie world created by the director, but also know more ab’ve begun charting created the magic. If I told you that I've begun charting them in a spreadsheet to get “The Big Picture,” you might think I’m insane, so I won’t tell you. (Oops!)
Truthfully, I could almost listen to Eric and Ian effectively speaking all day long. They have their charming British patter down pat… so much so that sometimes I’ve wondered if they might be Replicants…
