    On This Episode of The People’s Voice Podcast, I discussed how teacher shortages in U.S. K–12 schools are pushing districts to rely on private staffing agencies, some which are owned by private equity firms. While these agencies help fill urgent teacher vacancies, they can create long-term dependence, increase costs paid with taxpayer dollars, and in some cases are linked to poorer student performance and lower test scores. Other concerns such as high turnover, labor violations, and weakened teacher-student relationships have also been created.     The Hidden Exploitation of Vacation Cruise Line Workers

    Some vacation cruise lines have faced accusations of treating workers unfairly. Some reported issues have been include very long work hours, low or late pay and poor living or health conditions onboard. Many cruise ship employees come from countries such as the Philippines, Indonesia, and India, where working overseas is a common way to support their families. Because these jobs are so important to them and their families, some workers may be afraid to report problems. They might worry about losing their jobs, being sent home early, or not being hired again in the future.
