The Splash Stories podcast celebrates the 90's music scene and the influence of London’s infamous Splash Club venue which was to London what CBGB’s was to New York in 90’s UK. Splash Stories takes in the stories, the bands, the live shows and talks to the people on the scene, the fans, the journalists, the fashions and the wider entertainment industry.     Martin Atkins Splash Master

    Send us Fan Mail Splash Stories Ben Steadman & Diamond Dave caught up with Artist, Educator, Label Owner, Storyteller Producer Drummer and Museum of Post Punk & Industrial Music Founder Martin Atkins at his base in the Bridgeport neighbourhood of Chicago, IL.  Martin describes himself as an Entrepreneur in Cultural Arts Endeavours...He auditioned for and subsequently joined Johnny Rotten’s Public Image Limited in 1979 at only 19 years old and cowrote and performed on the song “Bad Baby” for the Metal Box LP & toured all over the world.  Atkins left formed Brian Brain and had an indie chart hit in 1980 with"They've Got Me in the Bottle" (#39), and club hits with the singles "Jive Jive" (1981) and "Funky Zoo" (1982). and then rejoined Public Image Ltd to perform on the album The Flowers of Romance and earlier this year he recreated the album live to celebrate its 45th-anniversary with a “murderers’ row” of talent, including Chris Connelly, Robert Byrne, Leyla Royale, Orville Kline, Alicia Gaines, and Alan Lake. In the mid 80's he played with Killing Joke recording Extremities, Dirt and Various Repressed Emotions, toured with Ministry, formed his own band, Pigface and worked with Nine Inch Nails, performing on the Grammy award winning “Wish” and appeared in the “Head like a Hole” video.  in 1988 he formed Invisible Records which has released over 350 albums and then Mattress Factory Studios in 1996. He wrote his book Tour:Smart in 2007, & has spoken around the world at major industry conferences, universities, and nonprofit organizations and is the Founder of the Museum of Post Punk and Industrial Music and teaches at Millikin University in Decatur.   When it comes to Martin Atkins : Expect the Unexpected.     Sneaker Pimp Ian Pickering talks to Splash Stories about life & The Noise Who Runs Re: GenX

    Send us Fan Mail The Noise Who Runs formed in 2019 by Sneaker Pimps’ lyricist Ian Pickering along with guitarist Felipe Goes is an Anglo-French dark electronic rock and pop outfit with heavy influences of indie, EDM and trip hop. Ian dropped The Noise Who Runs album Re: GenX  released May 8 2026 on Bandcamp & told Splash Stories : "There will be a final single from the album in mid-July, The Summer Talking" , after which I will start finishing the next album, currently entitled Signals in the Static.  That should be ready for release in 2027 and the live show is coming together. After essentially spending the last seven years exclusively writing and recording, it’s how best to translate everything back to a live set-up and I am excited by that.     Splash Stories with Sascha Konietzko - KMFDM

    Send us Fan Mail Splash Stories caught up with Sacha on KMFDM's 40th anniversary of  the ultra heavy beat. KMFDM (originally Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid, loosely translated by the band as “no pity for the majority”) .   Sascha  founded the multinational industrial band Kein Mehrheit Für Die Mitleid in Hamburg, Germany in 1984 as a performance art project on  a leap year - Feb 29, 1984 - at the Grand Palais in Paris, France. It was a collaboration between me and a group of painters/sculptors from Hamburg and Cologne that went by the name of Erste Hilfe (First Aid/Premier Secours). I was asked to do some audio accompaniment to the grand opening of an exhibition at the Palais. So I went and got what I could get my hands on from pawn shops along Rue St. Denis. Among the stuff I was able to procure were some vacuum cleaners, a broken synthesizer (ARP 2600) a bass guitar and an (Ampef) bass amplifier. I did my very best to come up with some spontaneous sonic chaos.  It didn’t go over too well once glass panes from the ceiling of that structure started to fall down, shattering on the floor amongst the (few) visitors. The sculptors had smeared concrete all over the glass entrances and some people fled in something of a panic. It was quite an uproar. Though I really enjoyed it… Sascha  also cheekily spread the rumour that KMFDM also stood for Kill M**********n' Depeche Mode — He  shared with us that he ’d been into dub and reggae since the late ’60s and was a huge admirer of Adrian Sherwood's body of work something I was able to share as Adrian had produced My Ministry the debut EP of Big Life Casino one of my bands in the 90's. —What do you know, Deutschland?     Suzi Quatro My SplashStory with Ben Steadman & Diamond Dave

    Send us Fan Mail Suzi Quatro was an Italian Hungarian born and bred in Motor City Detroit, Michigan, on June 3, 1950, and grew up in the suburb of Grosse Pointe.  Hailing from a musical family, she played bongos in her father’s jazz band by age eight and later formed the garage rock band The Pleasure Seekers and became a legendary female rock trailblazer in her own right.She has sold 55 million records world-wide  & counting &  paved the way for generations of women to rock n roll, a  true pioneer in a masculine dominated world  & the the first female rock bassist to become a major international star...  Writing and singing her own songs she became an inspiration the world over.
