Sauna, Icing Your Neck & Mouth Taping — What's Real and What's Risky

Spill the Tea with Dr. T | Sauna, Icing Your Neck & Mouth Taping — What's Real and What's Risky Your feed is full of nervous system hacks right now. Sauna for brain health. Ice on the back of the neck for instant calm. Mouth taping for deeper sleep and vagus nerve activation. And honestly? There's real physiology behind all of it. The problem isn't the idea. It's the one size fits all promise. In this episode of Spill the Tea with Dr. T, Julie brings your questions straight to her father Dr. Dickson Thom — and he doesn't hold back. From sleep struggles to cysts to the three nervous system trends taking over social media, this one covers a lot of ground in the best possible way. In this episode: Sleep issues — what's actually going on beneath the surface and where to startCysts and surgery — when is it actually necessary and what does biological medicine consider firstSauna and brain health — what's genuinely happening in your nervous system and who needs to be careful before jumping inIcing your neck — is there something real here or is this another oversimplified hackMouth taping and the vagus nerve — where the science holds up and where it crosses into risky territoryWhy a real piece of physiology stretched into a universal hack can do nothing for one person and cause harm for anotherThis is the pattern we keep seeing. A kernel of truth. A trending format. And millions of people trying something on a nervous system that was never assessed first. What works depends on where your body is starting from. That's not a caveat — that's the whole point. Got a question of your own? Come find us live on Instagram and bring it. Cortisol Face, Magnesium Stacks & Nervous System Resets — What the Trends Are Missing

Spill the Tea with Dr. T | Cortisol Face, Magnesium Stacks & Nervous System Resets — What the Trends Are Missing Cortisol face. Cortisol cocktails. Magnesium stacks. Nervous system resets. The wellness world is full of solutions right now. And yet... most people still don't feel better. Not because the information is wrong. But because nobody has told them the most important part: What your body needs depends entirely on where it's starting from. In this episode of Spill the Tea with Dr. T, Julie sits down with her father Dr. Dickson Thom to break down one of the most foundational frameworks in biological medicine — one that changes how you understand every supplement, every protocol, and every wellness trend you've ever tried. The Red, Yellow, and Green Zones. Your body isn't simply stressed or fine. It's operating in a zone. And that zone determines what actually helps you — and what quietly makes things worse. In this episode: What the Red, Yellow, and Green Zones actually mean — and how to begin recognizing which one you're inWhy the same symptom in different zones requires a completely different responseWhy cortisol is trending everywhere right now — and what the zone framework reveals that the trend doesn'tWhy stimulating a Red Zone body makes things worse, not betterHow HRV and BIA measure your zone with data — not guesses, not vibesWhy knowing your zone is the missing piece behind every protocol that hasn't workedThis is the episode to pin. To share. To send to the person in your life who keeps trying things and can't figure out why nothing sticks. Because if you don't know your zone, you're guessing. And guessing costs you time, money, and how you feel every single day. This is where that changes. 🌿 Resources & Next Steps: Get your nervous system tested and find your zone: https://www.biomed-drainage.orgWorkshops and courses with Dr. Thom: https://biomed.thinkific.com/Listen to the full podcast, Connecting with the Thom's: https://open.spotify.com/show/3x3gaTVNPRKyeoJtGZKZh4Follow along: @fitomizefitness and @drthom.biomedNothing shared here is medical advice. Spill the Tea with Dr. T | Biological Medicine vs. Functional Medicine — and Why We Don't Chase Symptoms

Spill the Tea with Dr. T | Biological Medicine vs. Functional Medicine — and Why We Don't Chase Symptoms If you've ever walked out of a doctor's appointment with a prescription that addressed what you felt but not why you felt it... this conversation is for you. In this episode of Spill the Tea with Dr. T, Julie sits down with her father Dr. Dickson Thom — biological medicine practitioner with over twenty years of clinical experience — to answer one of the questions they get asked most: What is biological medicine? And how is it different from functional medicine? It's a question that deserves a real answer. Because the difference isn't just semantics. It changes everything about how you assess the body, how you prioritize treatment, and whether you're actually getting to the root of what's going on — or just managing how it feels. In this episode: What biological medicine actually is and where it comes fromHow it differs from functional medicine — and why that distinction matters for your healingWhy biological medicine does not chase symptoms — and what it focuses on insteadHow the body communicates dysfunction before symptoms ever appearWhy treating the terrain changes outcomes that symptom-focused care can't reachWhat to look for when choosing a practitioner who actually works this wayThis is the episode to share with anyone who has ever felt like their care was missing something. Who has done the labs, followed the protocol, and still felt stuck. Who is starting to wonder if there's a different way to look at health entirely. There is. And this is where that conversation starts. 🌿 Resources & Next Steps: Learn more about terrain-based healing and find a practitioner: https://www.biomed-drainage.orgWorkshops and courses with Dr. Episode 79: Why Less Is More: The Hardest Truth About Real Healing

Why Less Is More: The Hardest Truth About Real Healing Let's be honest about something. When we talk about healing in biological medicine — real healing, root cause healing — we are not just talking about adding a supplement or trying a new protocol. We are asking you to change your life. And that is exactly why this conversation is so hard. In this episode of Connecting with the Thom's, Dr. Thom brings over fifty years of clinical experience to one of the most common — and most misunderstood — patterns he sees in practice: the resistance to slowing down. The belief that more action means more progress. The deeply human need to feel something working, right now, or assume it isn't. We get it. When you're suffering, patience feels impossible. But what social media is selling you — push harder, do more, silence the symptom — is not healing. It's distraction. And it may be the very thing keeping you from getting better. In this episode we explore: Why lifestyle change creates more resistance than any other part of the healing processHow we've been collectively conditioned to chase symptoms instead of addressing what creates themWhy silencing a symptom is not the same as resolving it — and what the body does when its signals are ignoredWhat "less is more" actually looks like in practice — and why it's anything but passiveWhy the body heals in trends, not moments — and how to read those trends with patience and precisionHow BIA and HRV data help patients see progress that symptoms alone can't showThe framework shift that changes everything: from fixing symptoms to supporting terrainThis episode is for you if: You've been told to be patient and you don't know howYou're frustrated that what you're doing doesn't seem to be working fast enoughYou've been on the supplement and protocol carousel and nothing seems to stickYou want to understand why your doctor keeps chasing symptoms while you keep feeling the sameYou're ready to consider that the answer might not be more — it might be less, done better, over timeThe truth nobody in wellness culture wants to say: The body already knows how to heal. It doesn't need to be forced. It needs the right conditions, the right support, and enough time to do what it was designed to do. Real healing is not loud. It is not fast. And it almost never feels the way you expect it to. But when you stop chasing and start listening — when you give the body less to fight against and more room to work — something shifts. That shift is what this episode is about. 🎧 Bonus Reminder: If you missed our guided meditation Learning to Rest Without Guilt at the end of Episode 77 — go back and listen. It was made for exactly this conversation. 🌿 Resources & Next Steps: Learn more about terrain-based healing and drainage: https://www.biomed-drainage.orgBecome certified as a Biological Medicine Practitioner: https://biomed.thinkific.com/Listen to our full podcast library on Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/3x3gaTVNPRKyeoJtGZKZh4💛 If this episode challenged something you believed about healing — good. Episode 78: The Body Speaks in Symptoms — Here's How to Translate It

Episode 78 The Body Speaks in Symptoms — Here's How to Translate It You've had the tests. You've seen the doctors. You've been told everything looks normal. But you still feel it — every single day. The exhaustion that no amount of sleep touches. The heaviness in your body that no one can explain. The anxiety humming in the background, the digestion that's always unpredictable, the sleep that happens but never fully restores you. You are not imagining it. You are not broken. And you are not out of options. Your symptoms are not random. They are your body's language — a constant stream of information about what's happening beneath the surface. The problem isn't that the message isn't there. The problem is that most of us were never given the tools to translate it. In this episode of Connecting with the Thom's, Julie sits down with Dr. Thom to do exactly that. They take the most common, frustrating, hardest-to-explain symptoms and show you what the body is actually communicating — and why two specific diagnostics, BIA and HRV, can finally make that language visible. In this episode we cover: Fatigue that sleep doesn't fix — what's actually happening at a cellular level and why rest alone will never be enough to resolve itThe puffiness, heaviness, and bloating nobody can explain — what your body's fluid balance is telling you about inflammation you likely didn't know you hadAnxiety with no cause, sleep that doesn't restore, and digestion that's always off — why these three things are almost always the same problem wearing different masksThe questions to ask your health practitioner to move the needle and finally get answers — including what most appointments never have time to exploreThis episode is for you if: Your labs are normal but you still feel terribleYou've tried many approaches and nothing seems to holdYou feel like your body is overreacting to everything — stress, food, treatment, daily lifeYou've been exhausted for so long it's started to feel like just who you areYou want to walk into your next appointment knowing exactly what to askYour body has not been failing you. It has been talking to you. This episode will help you start to understand what it's been saying. 🎧 Free Workshop — BIA & HRV: What Your Body Has Been Trying to Tell YouWe're hosting a free one-hour workshop where we walk through exactly what these diagnostics measure, what the numbers mean, and how they translate your symptoms into a clear picture of what your body actually needs.👉 TBA 🌿 Resources & Next Steps: Learn more about terrain-based healing and drainage: https://www.biomed-drainage.orgBecome certified as a Biological Medicine Practitioner: https://biomed.thinkific.com/Julie's Info:  Website:  https://fitomize.ca YouTube: https://www.youtube.com/fitomizefitness Instagram: http://instagram.com/fitomizefitness Facebook:  https://www.facebook.com/fitomize/ HRV FB group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/hrvjourney/ LinkedIn for Julie -  https://www.linkedin.com/in/julie-thom-b133881a0 Join Julie's email list:  https://api.leadconnectorhq.com/widget/form/8RlwuumfVZaum1yiEmud Dr. Thom's Info: Website:  https://drdicksonthom.com/ LinkedIn for Dr. Thom -  https://www.linkedin.com/in/dick-thom-7a36163/ Purchase the book:  https://drdicksonthom.com/product/the-brain-protocol-book/ BTG’s Book; https://drdicksonthom.com/product/basic-treatment-guidelines-aka-natures-laws-to-live-by/ 💛 If this episode gave language to something you've been feeling but couldn't explain — share it. Episode 77: Why Your Wellness Routine Might Be the Thing Keeping You Stuck + Bonus Meditation

Why Your Wellness Routine Might Be the Thing Keeping You Stuck We're back — and we're coming in with a question that doesn't get asked enough: Is what you're doing for your health actually helping you? Not in theory. Not because it worked for someone else. But for you, right now, in the body you're living in today. Because here's the truth most wellness culture won't tell you: good intentions don't equal good outcomes. And some of the most dedicated, health-conscious people we work with are stuck — not because they're doing nothing, but because what they're doing isn't matched to what their body actually needs right now. In this episode of Connecting with the Thom's, we're breaking down how to tell the difference between a practice that's building you up and one that's quietly draining you. We explore: How to know if your movement practice is supporting healing or creating more stress on the bodyWalking vs. running — and how to know which one your nervous system can actually handleWhy the type of yoga you're doing matters as much as doing yoga at allThe signs your body gives you when something is helping — and the ones it gives you when it isn'tWhy the same practice can heal one person and deplete anotherHow phase angle and HRV take the guesswork out of knowing what your body is ready forWhy more effort doesn't mean more healing — and what to do insteadThis episode is for you if: You're doing all the things and still not feeling betterYou leave workouts or wellness sessions feeling more exhausted than restoredYou've ever wondered whether your supplements, movement, or practices are actually workingYou want a clear framework for evaluating anything you're doing for your healthThe body is always giving you information. The question is whether you know how to read it. This episode will help you start. 🎧 Bonus Meditation: Learning to Rest Without Guilt We're closing this episode with something special — a guided meditation designed to help your nervous system do the very thing we talked about today: rest. Really rest. Without the voice in the back of your head telling you you should be doing more. If your body has been running on overdrive, this is your permission slip to stop — even just for a few minutes. Episode 76: Phase Angle Over Everything: Why Statins, DEXA Scans & Genetic Tests Are Solving the Wrong Problem

Phase Angle Over Everything: Why Statins, DEXA Scans & Genetic Tests Are Solving the Wrong Problem You've seen the posts. The recommendations. The new guidelines saying nearly everyone in the United States should be on a statin. The influencers pushing genetic testing and DEXA scans as the starting point for understanding your health. And maybe you've wondered — is this what I'm missing? In this episode of Connecting with the Thom's, we're saying clearly and without hesitation: no. That is not where you start. Before any advanced testing makes sense. Before any drug is prescribed. Before any genetic finding can be meaningfully interpreted — the body needs a foundation. And that foundation begins with one number almost no one is measuring: Phase angle. Phase angle, measured through BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis), tells us whether your cells have adequate voltage, whether water is in the right compartments, and whether your body has the structural and electrical integrity to actually heal. It is the primary driver of dysfunction — and it is being overlooked while the medical system chases downstream markers. In this episode, we explore: What Basic Treatment Guidelines are and why how you start your day directly impacts your healing capacityWhy phase angle is more foundational than DEXA or genetic testing — and how it actually influences what those tests revealThe three primary drivers of dysfunction: cellular voltage, proper fluid structure, and autonomic regulation (PNS/SNS balance)Why the new universal statin guidelines are not in your best interest — and what cholesterol is actually doing in the bodyWhy osteoporosis diagnoses need context, not just medicationHow genetic testing has value — but only when the terrain is stable enough to respond to the informationWhy knowing your numbers means nothing if your cells don't have the energy to act on themThis episode is for: Anyone who's been told they need a statin and wants to understand what that recommendation is actually based onPractitioners looking for a clearer framework to help clients prioritizePeople overwhelmed by conflicting health advice and looking for a true starting pointAnyone who wants to understand their body at the cellular level — not just through symptoms or surface scansThe body doesn't need more data thrown at it. It needs the right foundation first. When phase angle is low, when voltage is missing, when the nervous system is dysregulated — DEXA and genetics can't tell you what to do next. They can only confirm that something is wrong without giving you the right lever to pull. That lever is the terrain. And today, we're showing you exactly where to find it. 🌿 Resources & Next Steps: Learn more about terrain-based healing and drainage: https://www.biomed-drainage.orgBecome certified as a Biological Medicine Practitioner: https://biomed.thinkific.com/💛 If this episode made you stop and reconsider something you were told — share it. Episode 75: BIA & HRV Explained: The New Way Doctors Are Measuring Healing, Stress & Resilience

BIA & HRV Explained: The New Way Doctors Are Measuring Healing, Stress & Resilience What if healing didn’t have to be based on guesswork? What if you could actually see how your body is responding to stress, detox, nutrition, and emotional regulation—in real time? In this episode of Connecting with the Thom’s, we introduce two powerful diagnostic tools that are changing the way health is assessed and supported:BIA (Bioelectrical Impedance Analysis) and HRV (Heart Rate Variability). These tools allow practitioners and individuals to move beyond symptom-based care and into precision, terrain-based medicine—where we measure capacity, resilience, and readiness before pushing the body further. We explore how BIA and HRV help reveal: ⚡ Cellular hydration, integrity, and electrical balance 🧠 Nervous system regulation and stress patterns 💧 Fluid distribution and drainage efficiency 🔄 Recovery capacity and healing readiness 📊 Why some protocols work—and others stall Instead of asking, “What symptom do we treat next?”These tools help us ask, “Is the body ready to heal?” This episode is for: Anyone who feels stuck despite doing “all the right things” Practitioners wanting more accurate assessment tools People curious about data-informed, trauma-aware medicine Those seeking clarity instead of trial-and-error healing If you’ve ever felt like your healing journey has been a series of experiments, this conversation will show you what changes when the body’s signals are finally measured and understood. 📍 Find a location to get BIA & HRV testing: 👉 👉 https://www.biomed-drainage.org/ 📚 Learn how to use BIA & HRV in practice / Take the course:👉 https://biomed.thinkific.com/ 💛 If this episode helped you see your health in a new way, please share it, subscribe, and leave a review.Have questions about testing or training?
