One-On-Juan

Juan Gonzalez

My name is Juan, and on this podcast, we go one-on-one or One-On-Juan where I discuss my current issues with work-life, depression, anxiety, and the current modern work structure. I dive deep into how the current work structure can lead to these mental health issues, and what we can do to help ourselves navigate through them.

    Episode One - Introduction

Hello listeners, and welcome to One-On-Juan podcast. This is an introduction episode where I introduce myself to you all. Expect this first episode to be very short. In this podcast, I will open up about my current life journey, what I’m going through, which includes work-life, depression, anxiety, and PTS. I will also talk about my past, where I dive deep into my childhood traumas, which I believe have shaped me to be the man I am today—mental health issues and all. I am a 36-year-old introverted gay Puerto Rican male. I live alone in a studio apartment with my pug—Winston (he’s one and a half years old) here in good-ole Western Massachusetts. I suffer from depression, social anxiety, and PTS from my childhood traumas. I currently work at a high-volume call center at MassMutual (which is one of the biggest employers in Massachusetts—especially here in Western Massachusetts). I believe that working at this call center has triggered my depression—severely. On my days off, I enjoy getting lost in movies –especially Sci-Fi and fantasy movies, painting with my acrylic paints and canvas. I enjoy taking walks through the woods or hikes during the warm weather season. Being in nature is very healing to me, and I often fantasize about living in a cabin somewhere in the wilderness with my dog and not only being self-reliant, but self-sufficient. That’s a goal of mine, and something I will work towards to. It will be the happy ending to my life’s story. I also enjoy photography. I love taking pictures –whether it's on my iPhone or my polaroid, I love seeing the beauty of inanimate objects and capturing that beauty in photographs. I’m starting this podcast to not only help myself but to reach out and resonate with some of my listeners, who are not only feeling the same way but are looking for help, too. I don’t have a therapist I go to, to discuss my feelings and struggles, and I think that by me starting this podcast, and expressing myself and talking about it, it could bring some inner healing—even if it’s just temporary healing. I want to end this short introduction with an AntiWork subreddit post: “At some point, we must recognize that the financial anxiety young people are living through is not normal. Monetizing all your hobbies is not normal. Hustle culture is not normal. Glorifying precarious work is not normal. Self-optimization is not normal.” Until next time listeners, this is the One-On-Juan podcast.
