The Origins of Faeries

Came across this podcast and found it interesting. I also checked out Ms. Welker’s list of sources and found them more compelling, though I wonder how expansive her history of faeries will go. Fairies do not originate in Ireland and date back to ancient Persia, at least that is the history I have found in my research. But, she does begin in the introduction by saying that her focus is on Irish faerie folklore. She did neglect to metion one source I found, which is Fairy Mythology (that’s the way the title is spelled), in 2 volumes, published in 1828, by William Harrison Ainsworth. There are so many more sources of faery tales published in the 19th and early 20th Century. I recommend that research for anyone who wants to do a deep dive into faerie folklore and legend. I look forward to more episodes by Ms. Welker.
