Debbi shares her story about how one act of love grew into a comprehensive organization serving families throughout Solano County and beyond. Debbi Davis is the founder, owner, and president of Special Care Services, a specialized agency serving individuals with developmental disabilities and special needs in Solano County and beyond. With a background as a NICU and pediatric nurse at UCSF and North Bay for many years, Debbi brings decades of medical expertise to her work. She founded Special Care Services in 2016 to provide 24/7 supported living services for her nephew DeAngelo, a medically fragile foster child who aged out of the system at 18. What started as a mission to serve one has grown into a comprehensive agency offering: Enhanced Supported Living Services for medically fragile adults (24/7 care)Intensive Behavioral Programcombining ABA therapy with personal assistant services for flexible, child-centered supportInfant Development Services for children 0-3 with developmental delaysTraining and consultation for agencies, emergency rooms, and organizations on inclusion and autism sensitivityDebbi's passion for pediatric care was inspired by her late father, a pioneer in pediatric cardiology who "fixed baby's broken hearts."     We had the privilege of speaking with Hassan, the founder of Nature of Sound, a non profit with the mission to harnessing creative innovation and social entrepreneurship for social change. As a community leader and survivor, Hassan empowers volunteers, artists, engineers and other survivors to tackle critical issues through innovative projects. Gaming....YouTube....Social Media.....In this episode he dives into the risks that our special needs children and disabled adults are faced with everyday through the use of technology and he provides ways to offer protection. In today's digital age, gaming is more than just a pastime, it's a vibrant community that connects millions worldwide. At Nature of Sound, they recognize the importance of supporting local gaming ecosystems and has created the Safehaven Gaming Program. This program is aimed at joining forces with the community and businesses to better educate and protect our vulnerable community. He also has launched the Solano Anti-Trafficking to help address the epidemic of human trafficking in our community. The primary mission is to spread awareness to our community, specifically the youth, on ways we can fight back against the tide of human trafficking.     This is part 2 of Teri's interview. Teri is the mother of a severely autistic teenage son. She openly and honestly shares her vulnerability while speaking about her life as a special needs mother. Please listen with love, compassion and kindness. She is a beautiful warrior mother fighting everyday for her son as they journey thought this life together. There are families faced with struggles that most people can't even begin to understand. It is a struggle for just the basic needs to maintain life. Not even a qualify of life, just the basic needs to be alive. Families don't often speak about this struggle because they fear judgment from others. They are exhausted, alone and most of the time barely making it day to day. Their experiences are real. Their experiences are hard and no one should be aloud to try to silence them. Approximately one-quarter of U.S. children with autism are considered to have severe or "profound" autism. Profound autism refers to a subset of individuals with autism spectrum disorder who have significant intellectual and/or communication challenges, requiring lifelong 24-hour supervision and support for daily living activities. Key criteria typically include an IQ below 50, minimal or no verbal language, and an inability to perform most basic daily tasks without assistance, with these needs being consistent across different settings. The term aims to identify those with the most intensive support needs to promote targeted research and services.  CONNECT WITH US!!     In March of 2024 at the end of season 2, we had the honor of speaking with Dr. Amber Busay, but due to technical difficulties didn't get to release her episode. We are very excited to finally get to share this wonderful and candid conversation we had with her. She is absolutely and incredible person who finds such passion and joy working our special needs community. As you will hear in her episode, she has a special way of bringing people together and finding the supports each of our children need to be successful and overcoming barriers. She has worked in the field of special education for over 15 years. She began her journey as a paraprofessional in a non-public school setting. After realizing her dream was to continue to work with children with special needs, she went back and obtained her Master's of Art in Special Education with an emphasis in Autism.  She then pursued additional schooling and received her BCBA (Board Certified Behavior Analyst), where she continued to work in the non-public setting as a behavior analyst, mainly working with students with severe inappropriate behaviors under varying eligibility categories.  Dr. Amber Busay then moved to the school district setting as a behavior intervention specialist in Travis Unified School District, where she completed her doctorate degree in Organizational Leadership with an emphasis in Special Education.
