    Stephen King's IT (1990)

Rocky is currently seeing his corner man before we dive into the Creed trilogy. Thankfully, it's almost Halloween and we have a new "mini" retrospective to tide you all over. Listeners of ours know that we have made it our intent to tackle everything associated with Stephen King. We've slowly but surely been working our way through piece by piece during the years. However, if you're knowledgeable of how we are breaking our order down, you are scratching your head is to how we arrived here. Rest assured that there are circumstances we divulge in this recording to explain why we jumped a bit further ahead than expected. That brings us to this three-week chunk exploring one of King's most well-known properties. It's a story of friendship, changing chronologies, killer interdimensional beings and more red balloons than a county fair! In 1986, King released a 1200-page behomoth to the masses and development on an adaptation began immediately. IT (no pun intended) arrived on ABC over two nights to massive viewership and memorable recollections all these years later. With a big budget adaptation set across two films, how does the miniseries work as an adaptation of such a colossal novel? Is it worth dusting off your copy or going on streaming to revisit? Take the trip back to Derry with us as we discuss all things Pennywise for the next three weeks! Be sure to float with us to 2017's IT next week and we really hope you enjoy the discussion as much as we did recording it.

    Rocky Balboa (2006)

After the dust had settled on Rocky V and it was deemed a failure, writer/star Sylvester Stallone started making noise about wanting to end the series in another way. But she was starting to catch up to him, and soon it would just look silly for a 50 plus Stallone to once again step into the ring against yet another new contender. And then the most unexpected of all unexpected things happened. At the ripe old age of 45, George Foreman scored an unexpected knockout of heavyweight champion Michael Moorer to become the new WBO heavyweight champion of the world. As Rocky Jr says at the end of this film, now people weren’t laughing. Now Stallone had his starting point. Yet, after fights with original Rocky producer Irwin Winkler, who refused to do another Rocky movie due to Winkler not seeing a way the character could connect anymore (a fight that would cost the two their friendship), it would take another 12 years for Stallone to finally get backing and distribution for a brand new Rocky film to be produced. And after once again stepping behind the camera to direct, Stallone would prove Winkler and all naysayers wrong when in December of 2006, Rocky Balboa finally hit theater screens to massive box office and critical success. Here, the Three Men and a Retrospective Podcast hosts close out the Stallone starring leg of the Rocky series. And at a time when legacy sequels are still front and center -anyone see the Gremlins 3 trailer?- Rocky Balboa could be seen as the start of that trend. Is it worth your time? And what are the guys reviewing for this Halloween season? The answers to both those questions might surprise you!
