Tales Vinyl Tells-”stories record albums convey”

Brian Hallgren

Tales Vinyl Tells is my podcast that evolved into my radio show that airs weekly on RadioFreeNashville. I had quite a few LPs that I collected in the late 60s and 70s and I always knew the magic of the albums of that era of album-oriented rock brought back memories of times, people, smells, tastes and feelings. I hope it does for you too. Back-stories and album liner notes tie the tunes together. I’m your host Brian Hallgren and you should hear the Tales Vinyl Tells!

Episode 126: Letting It All Hang Out!

Episode 126: Letting It All Hang Out! July 6, 2026 Do you remember “Let it (all hang) out” by The Hombres? I dug it up and play it today. The Memphis band released that in 1967 (how old were you?) and the song has been redone by David Lee Roth and John Mellencamp among others. It was let out in the beginning of the psychedelic era. You’ll also hear my spotlight on Chris Hillman, who was a Byrd, played with The Flying Burrito Bros, Stephen Stills’ Manassas, Desert Rose Band, JD Souther and Richie Furay and had success as a solo act. He’s a player, for sure. There’s even a pair from The Beau Brummels. Get your instrument ready for our first JimJam on this episode. We play The Stones’ Lady Jane together. The story behind this segment is in a previous blog here. Thanks for listening today. My email is talesvinyltells@gmail.com. Episode 10:From 2020, "Truth" Is The Theme. Liar, Fresh Garbage.

Episode 10:From 2020, "Truth" Is The Theme. Liar, Fresh Garbage.  June 30, 2026 The original hour was recorded in late 2020 during Covid. It was a big election year, ending Trump's first term, when Covid was running wild because leadership didn't seem to care to stop the wildfire. So this is a show with songs about lying, cheating, crying and drinking. Don't be mistaken! It is a program about the great rock albums of the 60s and 70s. Episode 10: Let’s call this the second season opener. It’s about truth. It’s about honesty…in all things. I’m working on it and see some holes in my life. This one rocks quite a bit with Derek and the Dominoes, Liar, Jeff Beck, Journey and more. Happy listening! Join the Tales Vinyl Tells Album club and get notice of every episode upload.
