The Advice I'd Give My 20-Year-Old Self

Send us Fan Mail If I could sit down with my 20-year-old self for one conversation, what would I say? After years of working in fitness, building a career, investing, making mistakes, recording nearly 500 podcast episodes, and simply experiencing life, there are a handful of lessons I wish I had learned much earlier. In this episode, I share the advice I'd give my younger self, including:  Why taking care of your body early pays off for decades  Why your career is a marathon—not a sprint  The power of investing early and letting time work in your favor  Why taking more risks can change the trajectory of your life  The importance of appreciating the journey instead of constantly chasing the next goal  Why focusing on one skill at a time leads to greater success  And the mindset shift that helped me stop trying to "win" every single day Whether you're 20 or 50, it's never too late to make decisions your future self will thank you for. The Biggest Fitness Mistakes I've Made (So You Don't Have To)

Send us Fan Mail Nobody gets everything right—and I certainly haven't. After years of training, injuries, rehab, and nearly 500 episodes of The Power of Progress, there are several mistakes that slowed my progress and made fitness harder than it needed to be. In this episode, I share the biggest lessons I've learned, including:  Why I wish I had appreciated my progress instead of always chasing the next goal  The importance of taking deload weeks before your body forces you to  Why resting long enough between sets actually helps you get stronger  The mistake of skipping warm-ups  How just 5 minutes of mobility work can make a huge difference over time  Why rehab shouldn't stop just because the pain goes away  The trap of constantly trying to optimize every detail instead of focusing on consistency You don't have to make every mistake yourself. Sometimes the fastest way to improve is by learning from someone else's. 6 Fitness & Mindset Beliefs I Completely Changed My Mind About

Send us Fan Mail One of the best things you can do is change your mind when new experiences and evidence point you in a different direction. After years of working in fitness—and nearly 500 episodes of The Power of Progress—there are several beliefs I've completely rethought. In this episode, I share the biggest ones, including:  Why I've shifted from "Be, Do, Have" to focusing on taking action first  How journaling and brain dumping became one of my favorite productivity tools  Why I was wrong about meditation  The breathwork techniques I actually use (and the ones I still don't enjoy)  Why sleep quality has become one of my highest priorities  Why maintaining your health is sometimes just as valuable as constantly chasing progress  And why walking may be one of the most underrated habits for your physical and mental health Changing your mind isn't weakness—it's growth. Sometimes the biggest progress comes from letting go of ideas that no longer serve you and embracing the habits that actually make your life better. A Stranger Asked How to Build Muscle—Here’s Exactly What I Told Him

Send us Fan Mail A guy working out next to me at the gym asked a simple question: "How do I lift heavier weights like you?" It caught me off guard—but it also made me think. In this episode, I break down the fundamentals that matter most:  How much protein you should eat each day  Why calories matter for muscle growth  How hard you should be training (and what "near failure" actually means)  The easiest way to progressively overload your workouts  How much weekly training volume you actually need There's no magic exercise. If you're new to lifting—or you've been spinning your wheels—this episode gives you the blueprint to start making progress. How Much Protein Should You Eat Per Day?

Send us Fan Mail  How much protein should you eat each day?  The answer depends on your goal.  I break down the latest evidence-based protein recommendations for general health, muscle growth, fat loss, recreational exercise, and healthy aging. Whether you're just starting your fitness journey or trying to maximize muscle growth, understanding your protein needs can make a huge difference.  We discuss:   The minimum protein intake needed for overall health  How much protein recreational exercisers should aim for  The optimal range for building muscle  Why protein is even more important during fat loss  Whether 1 gram per pound of body weight is actually necessary  Why estimating your lean body mass can be a practical approach without obsessing over exact numbers  I also share how I calculate my own daily protein target and why I focus on consistency over perfection.   The goal isn't to hit the perfect number every day—it's to consistently eat enough protein to support your health and your fitness goals.   First time listening?  Check out our trailer: "Start Here - What The Power of Progress is All About"  It's less than 2 minutes and will help you jumpstart your fitness and mindset journey. Stop Learning. Start Doing. The Truth About Fitness Success

Send us Fan Mail  Most people already know what it takes to get healthier.  Eat enough protein.  Exercise consistently.  Get quality sleep.  So why aren't more people seeing results?  Because the problem isn't a lack of information—it's a lack of execution.  In this episode, I explain why so many of us keep searching for the next podcast, YouTube video, book, or fitness hack instead of simply doing the work we already know we need to do.  We discuss:   Why information has become a form of procrastination  The difference between learning and taking action  Why your first attempts will never be perfect—and why that's okay  How repetition builds confidence, skill, and lasting habits  Why guilt and regret often come from knowing exactly what you should be doing—but choosing not to do it  Every time you choose action, you're building momentum.   Every time you avoid it, you're reinforcing the opposite habit.   You don't need another secret.   You don't need another guru.   You need one more rep.   One more workout.   One more healthy meal.   One more step in the right direction.   Because success isn't built through knowing more—it's built through doing more, consistently.   First time listening?  Check out our trailer: "Start Here - What The Power of Progress is All About"  It's less than 2 minutes and will help you jumpstart your fitness and mindset journey. Stop Feeling Guilty: Some Seasons Aren’t Meant for Growth

Send us Fan Mail  Have you ever felt guilty because you couldn't stick to your fitness routine?  Maybe work got busy. You had kids. You moved. You started traveling more. Life happened.  In this episode, I expand on the idea that it's usually not about having time—it's about priorities. But there's another important piece that often gets overlooked:  Life happens in seasons.  Some seasons allow you to train five days a week. Others may only allow two. That doesn't mean you've failed—it means your priorities have temporarily shifted.  In this episode we discuss:   Why "I don't have time" is often really a question of priorities  How to recognize when you're in a busy season of life  Why it's okay to temporarily scale back your fitness goals  The importance of reassessing and readjusting when life settles down  How to avoid guilt while still taking ownership of your health  The key isn't being perfect all year long.   It's recognizing the season you're in, making the best decisions you can today, and having the discipline to ramp things back up when the season changes.   Because fitness isn't about perfection—it's about adapting for the long haul.   First time listening?  Check out our trailer: "Start Here - What The Power of Progress is All About"  It's less than 2 minutes and will help you jumpstart your fitness and mindset journey.
