The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 7: Why Did God Create the World?

Question 7: Why Did God Create the World? The Answer: God created everything by His Word, not because He was lonely, but out of the free overflow of divine love, so that all creation would enjoy His glory. God didn't create the world because He was lonely, incomplete, or in need of anything. From all eternity, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit have existed in perfect love and fellowship. Instead, God created everything out of the overflow of who He is—for His glory and so that His goodness, beauty, wisdom, and power would be displayed. As people made in God's image, we were created to know Him, enjoy Him, and reflect His glory back to Him. Sin distorts that purpose, tempting us to live for our own glory rather than God's. But through Christ, we are restored to the purpose for which we were made: to glorify God and enjoy Him forever.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 6 - Who Is God the Spirit?

Question 6 - Who Is God the Spirit? Answer: God the Spirit is the empowering presence of God in the world—the Lord, the giver of life. We are defined not by our inner self or spirituality, but by the Spirit's presence as he makes us new and blesses the world through our service in Jesus's name.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 5 - Who Is God the Son?

Question 5 - Who Is God the Son? Answer: God the Son is the eternal Word who took on humanity: Jesus of Nazareth, the Messiah of Israel and King of the world. He is not a life coach or therapist who affirms all our desires, but the Great Physician whose blood heals our sin-sick hearts.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 3 - Who Does God Reveal Himself to Be?

Question 3 of the Gospel Way Catechism: Who does God reveal himself to be? The answer: He is the Lord, the great I AM, one God in three persons: Father, Son, and Spirit. He is the Creator and Ruler of all that is, seen and unseen. In this episode, we explore the identity of the one true God and what it means that he has revealed himself as Father, Son, and Spirit. We discuss how the Christian understanding of God stands in contrast to a world that often views life as meaningless or encourages us to create our own truth and purpose. Because God is our Creator and Ruler, our lives have lasting meaning, purpose, and security in him.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 2 - How Do We See God and Come to Know Him?

Today, we consider the second question of The Gospel Way Catechism: How do we see God and come to know him? The answer: We see God by the light of his revelation, not by our imagination. God reveals his character and purposes through his Word and works. We live in a world that encourages us to define truth for ourselves—even to imagine God according to our own ideas, experiences, and desires. But the gospel gives us a different way. We don't have to guess who God is because he has made himself known. Through his creation we see the fingerprints of his character, and through his Word we see him most clearly. In this conversation, we'll consider what it means to know God as he has revealed himself and how Scripture becomes the lens through which we see God, ourselves, and the world around us.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Question 1 - What is the center and point of everything?

Today, we begin with the first question of The Gospel Way Catechism: What is the center and point of everything? The answer: God is the center and point of everything. In him, all things come to be and are held together. He has no rival. We live in a world that constantly tells us to put ourselves at the center—to look within ourselves for identity, purpose, and meaning. But the gospel gives us a much better story. Our lives begin with God, belong to God, and find their meaning in God. In this first conversation, we'll consider what changes when we stop seeing ourselves as the center and begin to see all of life with God in his rightful place.

The Gospel Way Catechism | Introduction

We believe that the ministry of the church happens most vibrantly when every member is growing in their relationship with Jesus and one another. Discipleship truly is a lifelong process of learning to hear, trust, and obey Jesus in every area of life. The Gospel Way Catechism is a tool written by our friend Thomas West and Trevin Wax. This catechism ("teaching" or "instruction") falls in a long line of faithful teachings provided by church leaders that have helped shape the beliefs of followers of the Way (John 14:6 and Acts 9:2) for thousands of years. "Fifty truths that take on the world" is an apt description of this catechism and are excited to introduce the journey ahead for our church family.
